Two major problems with the album that bring it down in my opinion:
1. The upbeat songs about her fame/status almost feel undeserved. I've never been a big fan of songs about an artist bragging about their wealth, fame, or attractiveness (main reason why I can't listen to Bruno Mars), and on songs like "At Least I'm Hot" and "Leave Me Alone," it doesn't feel like Renee is iconic enough to make those songs work.
2. The slow songs aren't really that ... read more
Just wow. I did not expect her to top Short n' Sweet with this album, but she definitely did. Manchild was a strong lead single, probably not my favorite from her but it really grew on me as the album promo continued. The album is pretty front to back, there's no "skip" even if there are some really high moments and some kinda boring moments. My album highlights are Manchild, My Man on Willpower, Nobody's Son, Go Go Juice, House Tour, and Goodbye. Conceptually and ... read more
A smash debut album for Audrey Hobert. Now knowing she wrote for Gracie Abrams, you can clearly hear her touch in Gracie's The Secret of Us, but this album is much more consistent and engaging. Some of the lyrics on this album, on songs like bowling alley and Chateau, are really well written and thought provoking. The production on some songs can be slow at times, but is really supplementing the writing on highlights like Sue me, Thirst Trap, and Silver Jubilee. Other highlights I would ... read more
A pretty safe pop record overall. Not the best but it's pretty inoffensive. Standout tracks include the title track, because I liked a boy, and vicious.
Not my favorite record of all time, but definitely Sabrina's best and one I have in rotation quite a bit during the summer. I would recommend it to all pop fans, my favorites are Please Please Please, Sharpest Tool, and Bed Chem. Don't Smile and Lie to Girls are a bit boring for me though
No bad song here, Team Cece and 754 are constantly stuck in my head in a good way. The rest of the songs aren't bad but they aren't quite as memorable. A really good album from an up in coming artist.
It's a 13 song album with 4 very boring skips. So that gives us about a max of a 70. The rest of the songs are good enough...? I Knew It, I Know You is an amaaaaaazing song. 'Risk,' 'i love you, I'm sorry,' and 'close to you' are well written and fun, the other highlights on the project. But hearing Audrey Hobert's new album, I can't help but wonder if most of the success is due to her songwriting
If I were to JUST rank the songs sung by the movie cast, it would be a 95, but the other songs included in this tracklist are just there to fill in the length and don't hold up. But I've been listening to the movie soundtrack nonstop and I can't complain, it's earwormy but well written, encouraging, and reminds me of a movie I loved.
Really well rated as soon of the best albums of the year so far. I'm not a biggest fan of the singles: die with a smile doesn't fit the album (if you disagree watch the music video) and abracadabra is overplayed. I bet you forgot disease was even a single because of how little noise it made, although I'd say it's pretty good. Some album track highlights include HBDUWM, Vanish Into You, and Perfect Celebrity. There's no bad song (Blade of Grass is kinda mid tho), so ... read more
While some of the songs are slightly forgettable, I care so much that I don't care at all shines in its storytelling and emotion. The opening track sets the scene with some really depressing lyrics. The album overall has some great moments sonically and lyrically, highlight tracks in my opinion being pardee urgent care, as if, and oh are you bipolar one or two? Highly recommend
A MUST LISTEN for all pop fans. Glaive uses some extremely depressing lyrics along with an intriguing hyper pop sound (with some acoustic guitar mixed in) to give us one of the best EPs of all time. I'm not the biggest fan of 'huh' and 'i don't really feel it anymore,' but the other 5 songs are amazing. An EP I can't get enough of.
It's guts but with 4 amazing songs added and a skip (the strange single choice, obsessed). Obsessed isn't bad but it's definitely the weakest song on the album. The rest of the songs all add a unique idea and sound to an already amazing album. So American, SOMG, and Stranger are fighting to be my favorite on the album overall.
An excellent follow up to sour, with every song here feeling necessary and unique in its own right. I love the decision to lean more rock in her music sonically, and it works very well on standout tracks ballad of a homeschooled girl and get him back! Bad idea right was a strange single choice but the album is pretty consistent in quality throughout.
Probably my second favorite debut album ever. While there is a bit of basic writing here, it is pretty great everywhere else. There isn't a bad song. Best songs in my opinion are favorite crime, traitor, and driver's license.
Revisiting this project, I realized it's just as good as (if not better than) it's follow up. Career highlights here include the smash hit greedy, run for the hills, guilty conscience, messier, and hurt my feelings. There aren't really any bad songs here, just not as many stand outs as the follow up. Some of the songs kinda blend together in the middle if you heard the album 20 times like I have.
So close to what? So close to greatness I'd say. I can't tell if that reads as a compliment or not so interpret that how you will. I really love many of the songs on this record but I can't quite rank it higher than 90, since some of the songs here (Miss Possessive, Greenlight, and Like I Do) are kinda just ok. But overall the album is great sonically, with my favorites being 2 hands, revolving door, bloodonmyhands, and dear god. It's mostly front to back, and even if there ... read more
Thank God The Separation came after this because this was... Kind of a mess. I love JB but this first mixtape isn't really it. The best songs here are about on par with the average song on The Separation and The Definition. Waves of Loneliness and The Wonder Years are pretty good, but the rest are either forgettable or bad. I stan JB but Wutup Snow is bafflingly bad
A pretty solid mixtape that feels more cohesive than his best mixtape, the definition. Some sonic choices (such as the opening vocal on One More Time) are jarring and can annoy the listener at time, but the album is mostly pretty good. My favorites are the final three tracks.
