Came across this LP on Bandcamp, gave it a try and left me totally addicted. It so massively heavy and sludgy, but OMG it is an absolute masterpiece. Apparently a therapeutic album much needed in 2021.
I really wonder why there are no “critic reviews”. So Wrong is such a lovely pop/R&B/Whatever album. Love the vocals and the melodies. Some songs sound so familiar that they might be covers or pieces of it, like St. Vincent used a Sheena Easton fragment on her latest (and greatest) Daddy’s Home. Magic Island simply does sound magic most of the time, and with St. Vincent, although incomparable, this might very well one of the better pop albums of 2021.
The concept isn’t new, and it isn’t very complex per se, with the slow beats, the movie and opera samples, the “Burial vibes”, but if it is done as skilled as DJ Muggs did it here, I can only fall in love with this album. It is warm and witchy, gloomy and makes you dream all at the same time. Instrumental hiphop at its very best.
I totally love the new Abul Mogard. Every song takes time to unfold but then it gets into full bloom. Mesmerizing drone at its best.
