It's not a pretentious album, it has its charm and almost every song has a unique flavour of overpass. Won't be long until this lot are massive if they keep up stuff like this, definitely one of the best young bands out right now and a debut I won't soon forget. Up the Overpass
I didn't listen to any of the singles for this because I wanted to go into it fresh and I was overall pleasantly surprised by this album.. The first song sounds like it has a little 'I don't see it that way' riff from Hard To Explain by the strokes just with a more Modest Mouse twist that works really well for the song. Life's a Dream is proof that Modest Mouse still have it, brilliant song and reminds me so much of their older songs and Third Side of the Moon followed ... read more
Widowspeak doing what they do well on this album. The title tack is a bit weaker, 3 minutes of unoriginal piano and guitar but If You Change completely revitalises this album. The track list seems a bit inconsistent, jumping between slow ballads and more upbeat songs with a complete disregard to the flow of the album but it does help the stamina of this album a lot and makes sure you don't get fed up of the ballads, giving them room to breathe.
Angel Number is another track I love off ... read more
Very melancholic album, the song Made Out Of Memory's drums reminded me of 80's comedown machine by the Strokes. I haven't listened to Nilufer Yanya before and it took me couple of songs to get into the sound but by the 3rd song I was enjoying it a lot more.
Very interesting vocal performance and not what I was expecting when I heard about this album. It sounds a lot like old school country with a nice over dramatic flare that works quite well. None of the songs properly jump out but it sounds like Thomas Dollbaum has defined his sound well. This seems to be a big year for indie folk and I'm all for it!
Quick EP, not even longer than a few of the songs on Hell for a Basement but still fun quick songs in that typical drug bug fashion. Rapidly becoming one of my favourite artists, can't wait for the next one
I love Belle and Sebastian and the idea of them making a football song was exciting even if I didn't think they were the right band to do it but this might be the worst song released this year, probably only getting beat to that title Morrissey. Not only is the actual song itself boring and lacking that Belle and Sebastian flare, the lyrics are truly horrendous and that little Benson Boone Mystical Magical bit make me wince. Very come on football score a goal. I'd find it surprising ... read more
Good indie folk album, with some beautiful song-writing and melodies. Really relaxing album and a good rec from a friend. Gonna listen to their new album when it comes out in September!
The jump from vocals from the 1st song to the 2nd is genuinely insane. The opening song took any hope I had for this album but the 2nd revitalised it making me think it was just a weird opener and the rest of the album would be another fun indie rock album similar to their album Peripheral Vision, which I listened to earlier. My Hand Is A Curtain is another one that shows a successful return to the sound that made them so famous. After that, however, Pieces was a bit boring and didn't ... read more
An album that probably defines 2010's American indie pop music, very similar to bands like Young The Giant ect. Brilliant lyricism on this album with upbeat drums. Song you can put on on a nice summers day or play when you need a more introspective approach. Very good
This albums at its best when its blending melancholic, yearning vocals with upbeat instrumentals. I've really been loving these indie rock albums from smaller bands or artists and this might be the best one of those I've listened to this year. Great lyrics, a vocal performance reminiscent of the last BCNR album and topped off with really intoxicating instrumentals. This album will pull you in and won't let go!
Doesn't add anything new to the genre but this album is proof that not everything does to be good. The vocal performance is brilliant with some fun features on some songs. A very good listen if you're looking for some relaxed indie rock to decompress to
Just realised I never actually wrote a review for this one! One of my favourite albums of last year, unbelievably fun, silly and really prime Viagra Boys with a few beautiful songs that highlight how brilliant this album actually is. Absolute treat from start to finish apart from the Best in Show IV
Really fun album and I love a lot of songs on here! like most Viagra Boys Albums, the best in show is the worst song on here but its a fun silly album from the goats!
This album completely lost me at 3. but the rest of it was really fun and solid. Would probably be higher but after the 3 quick tracks in the middle you have to get back into the album all together and it's just not great. Best song was The Worst Guys though, very fun track. Really glad he got Donald Glover for the final song, always wanted a collab with those two!
One of the best albums I've heard in a while. Modest Mouse has some how made all 73 minutes of this album enjoyable, I can't pick a favourite track tbh. While Jesus Christ Was An Only Child is probably the worst track on here it's still pretty good. 10/10 album and will have to come back to this later!
The 1st song was so interesting, a little grating but really interesting, made me hope the rest of the album would follow suit but it all ended up being uninspired pop. For a genre so wide, this album just doesn't really do anything for it
Billy Joel is a known quantity and so is this album. My mate recommended me to listen to it and I'm glad I did, really fun listen and will probably return to some more Billy Joel at some point!
Two Door Cinema club is a band you hear a bunch of singles from them that you love realise most of them are from this album. Super nostalgic album and I have a lot of love for it all. A few average or alright songs on here, Come Back Home was a weird one for me. I had already listened to this album before a long time ago but I'm seeing this live so may as well give it another listen to re-live my life!
I liked the 1st song but the mixing was really weird, took me out of it too much. To be honest, it's Mac DeMarco, you know what you're getting with this album. He's gone back to a very acoustic set. I'm not a massive fan of the vocals on this album, Punishment and onward shows the classic Mac DeMarco vocals that we all love but a lot of this album the higher vocals just doesn't work. Overall this album is very basic but very consistent, I don't know what the future ... read more
