It's very difficult to rate this album. Honestly, I feel like I shouldn't even have listened to it. Not because it's bad, but because it's almost uncomfortably intimate. I'm just some motherfucker, it feels wrong for me to be privy to all the details in this man's life that remind him of his dead wife. I think the album is great: Elverum gives some great insight into the depth of his own sorrow while remaining somehow tasteful. But it just doesn't sit right with me. Thug is a one trick pony as much as it pains me to say it, and it's gotten veeeeeery boring
can you believe they took this album off spotify? yeah me fuckin neither
I accept that I'm in the minority here, but this record felt like a miss to me. It's sonically entertaining for a while, but each song has a way of ambling on rather aimlessly. Nothing felt too memorable about it- there are certainly moments to write home about, but the entire album felt oversaturated with too many of the same lush, folksy, crescendos that Fleet Foxes have been known for.
