Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?

Pretty much a perfect pop record. The instrumental of Spotlight alone can bring me to tears. It's really proof of pop at its highest level. Its absence from the Grammys is baffling, especially if excellence is what they claim to reward. Also, a remarkable example of artistic reinvention in a stage of the artists life when many would have written her off.

The Velvet Sundown - Floating on Echoes

I only give it a 0 because I can't give a lower score.

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns

This album doesn't even seem real

Charli xcx - The girl, so confusing version with lorde

I was trapped in the hatred
And your life seemed so awesome
I never thought for a second
My voice was in your head

THIS. So simple and straightforward. This verse sums up how so many of us feel, especially in today's world dominated by social media. How self-conscious and insecure we are around people we look up to. It serves as a reminder that deep down, we are all a little awkward and self-conscious. It's incredible to hear that same hunger in Lorde's voice and writing again; ... read more

Charli xcx - BRAT

I'd be shocked if another pop album this year surpassed this one, as it's the best of the year so far. This is the masterpiece that I've always believed Charli was capable of creating; her ability to produce such an outstanding record demonstrates her perseverance, consistency, and hard work. "Von Dutch" is a banger that sweeps me across the room, and "So I" makes me cry every time I hear it. It reminds me of the wonderful relationships in my life, as well as how time can be ... read more

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us

Immediate reaction! This is my favorite band of my lifetime so i am bias but i thought this was brilliant, an excellent mesh of every VW album to this point but somehow still it's own thing. Ezra Koenig is a ridiculously gifted songwriter and lyricist and this is some of the most fantastic and intricate production i have heard on an album, give Ariel his flowers.

Corinne Bailey Rae - Black Rainbows

This was a huge surprise!

Troye Sivan - Got Me Started

you people are on crack, this song rules!

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loveliest Time

These critics are out of their minds. If Dua or Taylor released this album, they would be building monuments and claiming it as a potential pop album of the decade (mind you, i love Dua and Taylor, nothing against them). Everything about this record is stellar. The production (!!), the vocal performances, the styles she covers, the mixing, the energy... just phenomenal, with so little time after her last release. She's one of the best in the game and it's not even close

Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney - Ram

Best album of all time! The birth of indie pop as we know it. Ahead of its time, really misunderstood when it came out but it is so genuine, so funny, so heartfelt. I could go on and on. Please listen to this record if you haven't already.

boygenius - the record

I have been coming back to this album almost every day and have been raising the score every time I come back here. I really feel like I have created a personal bond with it. Boygenius, for lack of a better word, is truly one of the most special bands or projects (whatever you want to call it) in recent memory; it's a lightning in a bottle, if I've ever witnessed one in music. Three of the best songwriters of their generation, who in other circumstances would be kept apart as much as possible ... read more

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You

I haven't felt like this for a pop album since Melodrama. Astounding achievement! Some absolutely perfect pop songs mixed with beautiful experimentation. Such a dense and heartflet exploration of desire and longing. The art surrounding it is so tasteful and complete, i'm in awe. Can't wait to listen to it more and more and keep finding beautiful new details.

Caroline Polachek - Blood and Butter

It's as if Alanis Morissette made Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" and somehow decided to add bagpipes and it stills slays. I'm in love

Lorde - Melodrama

Just a perfect pop album, one of the defining pop masterpieces of the 2010s. Every time i revisit it every detail that makes it special just seems more obvious. I truly believe i could write an essay or one of those 33 1/3 books about this record. "Green Light" still sounds like the future of pop and i haven't heard many songs that have come close to the excitement this one gave me the first time i heard it, i was ecstatic. It's the perfect blend between a young prodigious songwriter ... read more

Taylor Swift - Midnights
NR

I mean... i don't know what to rate this yet. I enjoy "Lavender Haze" quite a bit (but i suspect it's because its so reminiscent of "Melodrama"), Anti-Hero is a good single and Sweet Nothing is lovely. But not a lot pulls me back to this record. It ain't bad by any means but it is far from her strongest material and Taylor has really spoiled us lately with folklore, evermore and the reissues (especially the vault tracks from Red, those were superb) so this record feels kind ... read more

"Achar que qualidade e sucesso comercial são sinónimos é das coisas mais embaraçosas que leio nestes comentários de álbuns pop. A Carly faz excelente música pop porque tem amor genuíno pela pop e é muito eficaz e passa isso tudo na música dela. Hás de me dizer em que planeta é que uma música como o Talking to Yourself ou o Western Wind são músicas "básicas" e "comerciais", QUEM ME DERA que estações comerciais passassem Carly."
