One of Lowertown’s major gimmicks is their overly repetitive lyrics. This adds to the general ‘lazy’ bedroom pop vibe of the duo. Both Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg have a monotone vocal style that rarely exceeds a certain vocal register. The instrumentals and arrangements of these songs are not really anything to write home about, but there are some catchy moments.
I think I enjoy the repetitive lyrics and monotone vocals more than I dislike them, but Lowertown do ... read more

Solid album. Not quite up to the exceptionally high standards which TFS have set for themselves, but Braindrops still delivers plenty of the band’s trademark weirdness.
The album simply has too many unremarkable moments. Many songs come across as leftovers or B-sides from A Laughing Death in Meatspace. Tracks like The Planet of Straw Men, Maria 62, Braindrops and Aspirin lack the catchy choruses, memorable riffs and groovy basslines of the band’s debut. The result is ... read more

His vocals are not bad, but rather a little unremarkable, and this is ... read more
The First Taste is such a groove. Up there as one of my favourite Fiona Apple songs to date.
Really enjoyed this album. Not quite as good as When the Pawn…, but still very memorable overall. I think the final stretch of the album is a little underwhelming after The First Taste, but the finale ‘Carrion’ brings the energy back.
