Oh boy I finally get to talk about Deftones again! Too bad this cover is gonna make people stumbling upon my profile even more confused as of right now, but hey the things you have to do in order to listen to peak. But any who, for the past couple of years these guys have never escaped my head when I think about music. It's funny to think that I have Dragon Ball to thank for that, but after watching a movie from the franchise featuring Change in the dub, I slowly go down this huge rabbit ... read more

READY TO RUIN MY PAGE WITH THIS ONE!!!

Real quick though thanks to @NoMindOffical again for this one. I might as well keep going with their music since I do see a lot of potential and I really like the building blocks of what's going on here, but uh, this one left a lot to be desired, compared to the last one at least.

First of all, the beat is brooding, dark, and even unsettling at times and I really enjoy that. However, I feel this could've been expanded on way more than just ... read more

Joy-Drift's 50 Followers Special!

Before I like, even say anything. I just thought it'd be nice to say thank you to everyone for the small, but still very cool looking number that is 50 on my follower's list! Seriously though when I started using AOTY, I told myself I would never review or anything of the matter. Totally wasn't because I was too shy to say something. I thought I was just gonna look for albums on here, maybe read reviews, rate the music, and just do nothing ... read more

Ya know what a great way to start the day; listening to this. I was wondering what to do since I was in an "album listening" mood, and this just sparked up in my mind, so I thought "Why not". I mean it is the cover that did it for me. That and the genres. Punk, and Eurodance in the same album? Now I just have to see what this is about. And I'm satisfied with how unique this was.

This is basically just a great feel good album. There's nothing crazy about ... read more

Real quick, thank you to @Gonnn for letting me know about his new project here. I'm a little late to their invite, but hey better late than never.

Soooo, the last time I listened to a project from these 2, I enjoyed it. A lot. It gave me a EDM scratch that I needed for an itch. Honestly, for saying that EDM is my favorite genre in music for it's potential, I sure have been slacking in terms of listening to anything from it lately. Thankfully, this came in to save the day, and it ... read more

I'M BACK!!! I'M BAAAAAAACK!!!

Of course, I have to shout out @Delfiano for letting me know about his lovely project here.

What a surprise. Ya know originally, I was just gonna force myself to finish my whole Kanye deep dive I had going on for the culture, but then I realized something. First of all, Donda is almost 2 HOURS long. I can barely find the motivation to do something an hour long, so you know it's difficult to get myself to do that. That and to be honest, I kind of ... read more

the kanye way (10/13...)

...Ya know to go from Ye to this in one day actually felt insulting. Something brimming with soul and creativity and now we go to this. If Kanye wanted to do a religious album, there could be so, SO many better ways to do it. Jesus is King is a mess. A complete mess. It was the longest, most dead 27 minutes I have ever spent on something in my life.

Now I'm happy that Kanye is able to find some sort of comfort in his beliefs and going to church. Is what I would ... read more

ALL KILLER NO FILLER!!!

Here we have 23 minutes of straight heat from Kanye. Honestly for how short this is, it does so much to justify being an album. And a great one at that. I have my issues with it, as the HIGHS are HIGH, with the lows being real noticeable, but this is such a fast paced, fun, thoughtful project, so it all works out. Ye absolutely delivers on what it was set to do, and does it so efficiently.

Kanye by this time was probably going through a lot. By ... read more

The Kanye Way (8/13)

The Life of Pablo? Who's Pablo? It's a pretty common name.

See, when I first heard of this album, I thought it was actually a story on some guy named Pablo. I wasn't too far off I guess. Kanye after like the first 4 albums, became a lot more brash, self-centered, and egotistical, with his boldness getting even bigger. For better and for worse. Kanye got way more reckless during this time, and after 808s, it sort of felt like most of his music had to be ... read more

Thank you to @NoMindOffical for the recommendation to your music! Sorry for being a little late on it, but better late than never I guess.

Anyways, this is a really solid song that I enjoyed. I do think that it could better if you fleshed the song out. The atmosphere on the beat is great though and the hook is catchy. It could just a little more oomph in my eyes. But, again thanks to No Mind for actually asking me to listen to their music. I hope they keep going, and improve because I can see ... read more

The Kanye Way (7/13)

Ok before I say anything of actual importance in this review. I don't know if this is a hot take, but like. This has to be one of my least favorite album covers for anything. Especially considering the theme of this album or ya know, maybe even more blatantly obvious, the title of it, which just gives off the feeling that there could've been something else done for the cover. I mean it's just the release of what the CD looks like... Wait is this cover an ad? ... read more

The Kanye Way (6/13)

So this is what disappointment feels like.

After MBDTF, Kanye's magnum opus, I was wondering to myself if I wouldn't be able to enjoy what comes next as much with how grandiose that album was, and how it succeeded with an A+. This unfortunately did not completely cancel out those feelings. Watch The Throne is a collab project between 2 of the biggest rappers ever. You would think they would make something that would be bangers front to back right? Unfortunately, ... read more

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

The Kanye Way (5/13)

This IS a fantasy. It's beautiful, but it's also twisted, and dark. Maybe even wicked. To just say it already, this album fits it's title so perfectly. With everything surrounding this man, and what he was about to put out for everyone to listen to, it is perfect.

So after getting all drunk, and deciding to go up on stage at the MTV Music Video Awards to interrupt Taylor Swift, and unnecessarily defend Beyonce, Kanye was booed not only off stage, but in his ... read more

The Kanye Way (4/13)

Ok so, after Graduation, Kanye was living that Good Life. He had everything. Well materialistically. More important than that to him though, was definitely his mom. I mean for crying out loud, he made a song dedicated to her and put that on his sophomore album. Donda, clearly meant a lot to this man, and that's lovely to just see be shown clearly. Unfortunately though, Kanye would go through many hardships before this album came out. Not only was his fiancée, ... read more

I would like to pay my respects to the dropout bear because this is the last time he will ever show up in Kanye's discography. RIP, he was a great mascot

Graduation is definitely something that changed the landscape of hip hop. It pretty much made using electronic instruments popular in the genre, and we definitely have it to thank for all of that. However, how does it compare to the other 2 albums, and is it a fitting conclusion to the dropout "trilogy"? ... read more

The Kanye Way (2/13)

I'm actually dumbfounded. I came in with some pretty high expectations, and they still went up the roof.

Mr. Kayne- I mean Kanye West, had blown up with success after The College Dropout, his amazing debut album. Now it was time to continue in the path of what put him up on a pedestal, but Kanye still decided that he wanted to try something different. Late Registration, while following the soulful feels of the previous LP, feels like a return to that work, but also ... read more

The Kanye Way (1/13)

I just now realized what I'm about to get myself into. Whelp, I'm not gonna back away now.

Kanye West, one of the biggest hip hop artists of all time. He's clearly got a mind of his own for better and for worse. On a positive note though, with that mind comes with his huge discography. Now I've only listened to Graduation, but I thought that maybe I would try and just listen to them all in order. Including the dookie stuff. This is something I randomly wanted to do to get ... read more

You know. I like to call rappers like Jay-Z, "Black dad" music. I mean, they're older rappers that are from the times they might've grown up in, and this was the music they listened to. It's about time, I listened to another one of those artists, and today it's Jay-Z. That, and I have something in mind I'd like to do, while having this be a prequel of sorts.

So anyways, to put it simply. This album goes so hard. Like at first I was already really enjoying it a lot, but then in the ... read more

Madonna - Ray of Light

An hour ago, I had no idea what I was going to get out of this album. I didn't even know who Madonna was, but turns out she's the queen of pop so I had some sort of expectations. They went through the roof. Like into space even. Why did this have everything I could ask for with something like this? It had a beautiful vocalist, a guitar, every song was so magical while most were catchy bops, and it's using EDM genres. Literally, what did I just find?

So Ray of Light is like not what I expected ... read more

George Clinton travelled into the future. I refuse to believe this was made in 1971.

Funk and Soul are huge in terms of black culture. Nowadays, I get the feeling that I, and many other young people have probably forgotten how important these genres are to the culture. They've influenced many songs today, and so why not take a look at an album that's received love, and for good reason.

Maggot Brain is such a fun album, and even when I felt a decline in terms of general quality, I was still ... read more
