Once this album settles, it really clicked for me and things that I first felt were flaws became the album’s biggest strengths. The production is very polished and almost empty at times. Yet, it is executed so well and feels so unique in comparison to any other pop record. It just feels so clean and refreshing and simply fun. Such a great fusion of dance and digital pop. Lots of lyrics that, although simple, explore topics of love and just as well as fame’s effect on these ... read more
Bought this so quickly. Probably my aoty so far pretty easily. It's so chaotic and raw. Even though the majority of the lyrics are in French, I can still feel the pure anger or hatred oozing out. The band is not afraid to express their burning, haunting view of the world. Such creepy, scrappy production to pair with the vocal performance. It feels like someone going mad and spiraling over a world that has wronged them with its horrors.
Super impressive album. There's moments of peace and horror, often a blend of both. One of those albums you don't return to much but appreciate every time you do. Especially love when the songs get intense and there's plenty of really solid buildups and releases. Every track is doing something and doesn't have filler tracks. Again, don't see myself returning back much but it's still incredible and so enjoyable to listen to with all the care and density packed in.
Think he should've just released the three ambient tracks as a separate ep and leave them unincluded from the album. They're very grand but I don't know if they do quite enough with their length. The only one I kept coming back to was ii a noit which was so calming. Gives this sitting on a dock at dusk fiddling around with a guitar while reflecting on life vibe. Other two ambient tracks are good but not as impressive and I found them to be a blur. The two extra tracks are good to ... read more
Not too much to say about this one. It's just really good. Has this summer morning with nothing to do vibe. Super vibrant production with dance and pop elements. I need to try to listen to this during the summer. Nothing stands out to me much. Not a fan of the layered vocals on a couple tracks and sometimes I thought the production didn't commit enough to its flowery dance vibe. A pleasant, vibey listen throughout.
Decided to listen to this after watching perfect days because of its inclusion stuck with me. Lou Reed delivers an album with lots of range. Tracks like vicious are eccentric and deranged with bizarre lyrics and fun production. Then tracks like perfect day and satellite of love give a more introspective, calmer, yet still powerful view. The album gives this perfect chaotic blend of meaningful, gritty, but wild songs. It really feels like the culmination of a worn life.
Honestly pretty underwhelmed by this album. As someone who really enjoyed by storm's previous singles, I was expecting much more. My biggest compliant would be the production. The stringy, wind production overlayed with mechanical vocals were rough. But I loved and I dance and double trio 2. These two songs were more of what I was expecting. I'll need to relisten more but for now, it disappointed me.
Always dismissed this album for some reason but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. It has this hazy, darker vibe to it. I loved all the tracks, especially one and two. Stabilizers for big boys especially blew me away. Something about the staticky, weathered vocals really appealed to me. Definitely is a unique sounding project that seems so raw. Would love to get this on vinyl.
Decided to check this out after really enjoying the uncut gems soundtrack. This album feels really spacey and bange against metal. Not much stuck and I wasn't intrigued enough to relisten much. I prefer more calming, ambient music and while this album is beautiful in a technologically industrial way, it isn't something I can enjoy much apart from appreciating the uniqueness.
Feels like it’s trying to be more artful to its detriment. There are still moments of amazing production but they are the exception not the rule. The album reverts back to such a bland and basic sound. It feels like fake maturity while sweet boy felt like authentic immaturity. The songs are just so much more empty and spacious. A lot of them were just plain boring. For some reason it feels less cohesive than the mixtape. I really feel like Malcolm overreached and attempted to be more ... read more
Played this after a warm spring day off of school. It really fit the summer ish vibe. Just reminds me a lot of my girlfriend and hangouts with her. Malcolm doesn’t have a super groundbreaking style but it still sounds super unique and fresh at the same time. He stays pretty firmly within the indie rock and bedroom pop lane but really flourishes and uses the genre to its fullest potential. The songs are very full and dense with his voice bringing a hazy and really warm vibe. The guitar ... read more
Came into this project not knowing what to expect. I wasn't too familiar with all the songs being covered which may have dampened my experience. I found that aesthetic to be pretty cool. The tracks were haunting and sounded like twisted versions of classic songs. The vocals were pushed to the back and production was creepy and rich. But I never felt inclined to replay the album and nothing stuck with me rather than it being an interesting way to cover songs.
Super interesting band with tons of potential. The first song is a huge standout for me. Probably a solid contender for song of the year. It's such a rustic song with smooth, beautiful vocals by the girl. It has a solid buildup and transports me to a country road. The rest of the ep is good but doesn't match the excellence of the opening track. The instrumentals are a little too artificial in comparison and it doesn't feel as authentic as beforehand. The buildups are a bit ... read more
