Enjoying this album a lot more with relisten. Vince’s style is so smooth yet articulate and coneys a powerful message throughout.
If anything this band proves to be incredibly dynamic, pretty much nailing several different genres track after track. While nominally a grind core band there is some blackgaze, screamo, post-hardcore, post-metal, death metal, drone metal inspired songs that are chaotically sequenced which makes for quite the listen.
While certainly having its cool moments, it feels tedious despite it being a reasonable 37 minute run time.
To continue my series on listening to 80s albums, I figured Joy Division would also serve as a great starting point. Having listens to and enjoyed a lot of current post-punk it only made sense to rewind to the post-punk of the past.
This album serves as the second and last album from Joy Division. While certainly a short discography that didn’t stop them from receiving immense acclaim from post-punk fans. This album certainly helps serve as a key reason for said acclaim, a landmark for ... read more
Today I figured I’d start a challenge for myself by listening to at least one 80s album a day for the summer. I noticed that I have very few ratings for this decade and figured I’d go ahead and listen to as many 80s albums feasible. And it made perfect sense to start said challenge with a Talking Heads review, considering the A24’s various artists tribute album just dropped (I’ll review that once I have gotten deeper into the Talking Heads catalogue). The first thing I ... read more
Kindve crazy to think this is only Billie and Finneas’ third album together and they’re both still so young. They will only continue to dominate as the years go on.
This is Billie Eilish’ most subtle album to date, following a similar approach she took in the fantastic album “Happier Than Ever”, but feels entirely different than that album. Their collective creativity sharpens beautifully with every album, even if I don’t think this album is as good as the ... read more
I discovered this band on a random scroll through Bandcamp, particularly the Screamo genre page. The album art I thought was super cool and the story behind this band also intrigued me. I hadn’t heard of Youth Novel prior to this album, so I came into this pretty blind in terms of my expectations.
I truly was blown away by this album, the trade-off vocals between Mel and Juno work quite nicely and the production is insane and compliments the style incredible well. Will be on of my ... read more
The album is pretty decent, but still underwhelming. The features were very hit or miss, a lot were good but a few were not great to say the least. If Conway proved anything with this album is that he is running out of ideas.
The songs are so good. The songwriting is fantastic especially considering the length of these songs. I do wish that I didn’t have to first listen to this album after Steve Albini’s passing (it not being on DSPs was a contributing factor, but I decided to buy today).
RAYE has received a ton of visibility because of this album, and rightfully deserves it
OHHH MMYYYYY FUCKKKIJG GODDDDD
HOW DOES ONE COME BACK FROM THIS??????
“ya know Rick reading my Miranda Rights” 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Drake cooked 🔥🔥
This is truly a generational jazz album. The production on this is genuinely impeccable. The songwriting absolutely justifies the length of the songs. Kamasi Washington had a vision and applied it beautifully throughout this album. The elements of hip hop were some great touches as well, Coast Contra, D Smoke, BJ the Chicago Kid just to name a few.
The Lemon Twigs offer a very addictive half hour of rock music. The songwriting is fantastic.
WILLOW comes through with her most mature album yet, the lyrics on this album draw a great picture of what is happening in Willow’s mind. Will I certainly loved the over the top Coping Mechanism, this album shows Willow in a new light, one that I hope she explores more.
A pretty decent album from Dua Lips, I enjoyed the singles a lot as well as the other songs on the first leg of the album, but unfortunately the last leg of the album, after Illusion, do fall flat. While I certainly love the many highlights on this album, there are certainly songs that unfortunately take away from the overall enjoyment.
After listening to the BoC ep, I figured I’d go ahead and listen to their classic of classic albums “Music Has a Right to Children”. This album is addictive, layered and one of the best produced albums you’ll find anywhere. Got a lot out of this album.
