The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
NR

After listening to it multiple times throughout the years, it’s safe to say that “The Glow, Pt. 2” is my favorite album of all time. Now I think it’s time to do it justice and try to give it the review that it deserves.

The album starts off with “I Want Wind to Blow,” which, like the next few tracks, is a fan favorite. This song starts with a beating kick drum and Phil Elverum’s signature multiple takes of guitars layered on top of each other. Then ... read more

Mount Eerie - Dawn
NR

This album is like a compilation of little poems turned into songs. Each track is very simple, definitely nothing as grand as some of his other projects, but it works very well. Some of my favorite songwriting I've ever heard is on many of these songs. "Moon Sequel", "I Say 'No'", and "A Show of Hands" are some of my favorites. The way there's a sort of call-and-response on both “'I Say 'No'" and “A Show of ... read more

Sora - re.sort
NR

“Re.sort” manages to take these layered and intricate sections and make them digestible enough to where it feels like the music is carrying you along with it. Whether you’re floating on a cloud or lying on the beach, this album takes your mind to places you could only dream of. It doesn’t need to tell you everything upright, it builds the frame and you get to place ... read more

Converge - Jane Doe
NR

Now we’ve gotten here, “Jane Doe,” my favorite Metalcore album ever made. I’ve been waiting so long to say my thoughts on this album and to relisten to it after such a long time. This album is so memorable, so replayable, so intricate, so vicious. It just has so many things going for it that I can’t help but love it.

The album opens with “Concubine,” a pretty short and sweet track, but god it works perfectly. It really sets the tone of the album. ... read more

Today Is the Day - Sadness Will Prevail
NR

No matter the day, sadness will prevail...

This is one of the most dark and hopeless albums that not only exists, but could possibly exist. Everything about this is harrowing. The first time I listened to the title track, it was one of the only times that a song truly disturbed me. The second half of screams in that song just instantly make me paranoid. There are multiple points in this album that disturb me but that still takes the top spot.
This is also the longest album I've ... read more
