Zach Bryan - The Great American Bar Scene
72

Not a country listener, but I’ve had my phases. So without a doubt I can say that Zach Bryan’s songwriting shines through yet again on this one, I mostly enjoyed it. He knows how to write a damn good country song. Has a damn good voice to back it up too.

Modern country can get pretty repetitive, but I feel like he does at least a little better of a job to not keep it all the same. He’s certainly not immune to it though.

Zach Bryan could and should go down as one of the ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
90

Had almost everything I want out of a hip-hop album. Amazing energy, loved how it totally encapsulates the idea of maximalism throughout almost the entire project, with a couple of moments of extremely well-engineered simplicity/introspective.

Yes, I have listened to other popular peggy projects, and reviews will be coming soon. Don’t crucify me for saying this, but this might be his best and most complete project so far, imo. Matter of fact, it very well could be my AOTY. But who knows ... read more

samlrc - A Lonely Sinner
90

Not my AOTY, but a high candidate for runner-up. Thoroughly blown away though and through. For someone as young as sam is, this is really goddamn impressive.

Definitely felt some HANL influence throughout the tracklist, although it felt a little less perfected. I can’t really be too harsh about it though because it’s not a HANL album I’m reviewing; it’s a samlrc album. She definitely got the emotion part down for sure. Everything she wants the listener to feel, be for ... read more

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
90

Throughly enjoyed this one. Bangers on bangers. This is one of my goated albums for productivity, with a bunch of roadtrip classics on there too.

Black Sabbath’s sound, including that made on this album, has made and continues to leave a lasting impact on metal as a whole.

I can’t really say a lot about this because I need to (and am really looking forward to) jump into their stuff and just 70’s/80’s rock overall, definitely one of my more ignorant genres.

Fontaines D.C. - Romance
86

I originally got HOOKED to Fontaines D.C. when I booked concert tickets for the arctic monkeys (for ref. check my Skinty Fia review) and I have been a fan ever since. This is definitely an album that appeals more to the masses, rather than the more blatantly post-punk rock identity they grew with Skinty Fia or A Hero’s Death. And even though I thoroughly enjoy their past projects more than this one, and want to see a bit more of a return to that on their future projects, I did really ... read more

Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
90

It was my first real heavy metal album that I listened to TOP-BOTTOM, I was definitely blown away with how awesome and crisp the production was. I hated the scream at first, but now it’s one of my favourites and I am definitely hooked. As I go deeper into this genre I will be using this album as a reference point, and from what I am hearing those are some decently high standards.

Woulda ranked it higher if I knew the genre better, but this is definitely not my expertise so everything ... read more

Ha Vay - Baby I'm The Wolf
79

Honestly I was decently edged this entire experience. She sounds like a more modern take on Kate Bush with some sounds of Lana Del Rey so I was really excited, but the song structuring kinda sucked. Only a few tracks with good climaxes and well-written choruses. It was like I was wanting a specific sound that I originally heard from Moon Girl (that got me interested in this album) and just never really got it. I most definitely added Moon Girl to a couple of playlists, and I most certainly will ... read more

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us
91

Everything I could have asked for from Vampire Weekend, everyone knew that they could make an album like this, and they proved us all right.

This shit is just sooooo vibes man. In all seriousness, that production might be the best on any album for 2024. Listening to this in a pair of WH-1000-XM4 headphones makes it very clear how quality the sound is compared to other top projects of this year.

Might become one of my go-to productivity albums honestly. Tracks have variety, production is super ... read more

Jeff Buckley - Grace
100

I’ve been a fan of Grace for a lonnnggg while, I was just waiting to sit down with the album about a dozen more times to see if I would ever get bored of it. I wouldn’t, no surprises (radiohead jumpscare). Anyways speaking of Radiohead, I find it really cool that Thom Yorke saw Buckley live, which he claims was a big inspiration for the sound of Radiohead, especially on The Bends, another album I love but need to sit front to back with more before I can write anything.

Jeff’s ... read more

Clairo - Charm
87

I have an inkling that this will be one of the few albums that will get a second breakout 30 years from now a generation or two down the line. Don’t ask why, it’s just a feeling I have.

Anyways, Clairo is the queen of bedroom pop, and this album is a very good expansion on that sound; it’s very cozy. I like.

It’s definitely one of those albums I can throw on while doing a lot of basic productivity stuff so I will definitely be coming back for more listens.

The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
82

Listen, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this album. But, compared to the true glory days of the Cure, the only thing I could think about while listening to this album was that it tasted like gourmet chicken and rice; whereas albums such as Disintegration and Three Imaginary Boys felt like counter-narrative rebellious rock that actually stood for something. Sure, you can undoubtedly make chicken and rice taste awesome, but at the end of the day it's chicken and rice, the only thing you ... read more

Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence
88

Without a doubt Lana's best album to date imo. Production is real good and her voice fits perfectly on all the tracks. No full skips on this one, it's everything I could ask for out of a Lana Del Rey album. Very good, more in-depth review maybe coming soon or somewhere down the line.

Giles Corey - Giles Corey
100

I am a huge deathconsciousness fan and this definitely didn't disappoint. I genuinely cannot listen to the first track. Someone should go check on Dan and make sure he's doing okay. But in all seriousness, there is a very big difference from this project and deathconsciousness, I thought it would be a bit more similar but it still blew my socks off either way.

After probably one of the shittiest albums I may ever review (God that eminem project was horrible I really wanted it to be ... read more

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
47

I'm normally a big fan of any new hip-hop projects but mannn wtf is this

Grouper - A I A : Alien Observer
95

only reason it's not a perfect 100 is because I can't listen to it all the time. It's like a winter album or like a hot summer night in the nature type of album; but for when I get those times, best believe I am playing the shit out of this.

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
85

Genuinely, with the direction Billie and Finneas are going in, they will undoubtedly be some of the greats from this generation of music. This project completely blew away my expectations: dare I say it, it hit me hard and soft (sorry not sorry).

First of all, kudos to Finneas for really stepping it up to a whole new level of his production. A mix of some funky pop, to slow ballad-esque music, to even some orchestral elements. Everything from the instrumentation, to the mixing/mastering, to ... read more

my bloody valentine - m b v
76

This is my first full introduction to My Bloody Valentine. Their style has undoubtedly left its mark in music. I had come across the song ‘she found now’ which I really liked and it intrigued me to listen to the entire project. It didn’t disappoint me per se, but it didn’t live up to what ‘she found now’ had promised me.

The first 2-3 tracks are awesome. Like I mentioned, their style is very good. But by the 4th track I was starting to lose concentration a ... read more

System of a Down - Toxicity
91

Although this energetic style of nu-metal isn't necessarily up my alley, I thoroughly enjoyed this project. I also totally get the appeal as to why so many people like System of a Down, too.

First off, I wanna preface this by saying I have pretty much no experience with SOAD apart from maybe the chorus bit of Chop Suey. I was literally going into this blindly. Although, I was looking at the genius lyrics/breakdown while listening to the tracks which helped A LOT.

Holy shit is there a lot ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
90

As mentioned briefly in my review of ‘Songs’ by Adrianne Lenker, I like this album for many of the same reasons that I enjoy this album, even though the styles are different and they are in arguably different genres.

This album is heavy on the heart, but in a very simple way. It is not distorted, avant-garde, or experimental. Its identity can be found in the authenticity and the simplicity of the album.

One of the big differences for me between this album and ‘Songs’ ... read more
