Though most would disagree, I would say this album one-upped Dookie with better songwriting, a more focused approach and a more angry, straightforward punk sound. I would go as far as to say it is my absolute favourite Green Day record because it nails the tone its trying to set. Yes, it's not as complex and varied as Nimrod, but that is not in any way a negative. When you say Green Day, I think of this album.

The melancholy this album exudes is impossible to adequately summarize. This album feels like an old friend, but at the same time I cannot grasp the fact that it has been half a decade already. And so much has changed. But this monolith still stands.
I remember how universally loved this album was, how refreshing it was to hear something new and exciting from a band we all considered to be past their prime at a scary and confusing point in everyone's lives. This album makes me think of ... read more
A very enthralling post rock effort with fitting shades of metal. The guys in the band are also very cool! Enjoyable listen, great live act as well.
Found this randomly. I really didn't mind it, but it is quite front loaded.
I have grown to love this album like an extension of myself. It is not objectively perfect, but it is just the right combination of melancholy and energy I look for in Interpol. I hesitate to call it my favourite Interpol album because TOTBL exists, but this is a serious contender.
I did not hate The Unraveling, but it was not an amazing album and I had no hopes of this being an amazing album. I was wrong, I love this. The production may be rough on some parts, but I have issues with production in most all PUP albums. The songs are visceral and emotional and the production fits it, even if I believe it could have been done in a better way. Its an album reeking with frustration and I love how well that is represented in its sound.
The catchiest goddamn thing ever, and it's even more impressive that she made this at 19. The subject is quite unique, the music videos are enchanting as well. Amazing.
This is the mother of all pop records. I don't think I've ever been as enthralled with a pop record as with this one.
The Lovecraftian horrors really help sell this. Not their best, but a worthwhile effort.
If you ever intend on listening to stoner or doom metal, this is a must. It's a classic for a very good reason.
Beautiful, ethereal, enchanting, experimental, cathartic, emotional, simple. Impressive.
To be honest, I started listening to it as a joke. Then I realized I kinda liked it and I go back to it every so often since its a grindcore album that can be stupid and fun without sacrificing the quality of the music. Decent.
Though I enjoyed this, the messaging contrasted with the music just a bit too much for me to enjoy it fully. I can understand the idea behind it, but its hard to just bop to a track which is made for bopping, while it simultaneously talks about being diddled as a child very openly and bluntly.
This feels like being curbstomped by a drunk, overweight man in the best way that sentence can be interpreted.
Povratak u formu nakon malo dosadnog drugog albuma ovim monstrumom koji im je najbolji album do sada. Nema loših pjesmi ovdje, samo dobrih i boljih.
A return to form after a somewhat lacking sophomore album through this absolute unit which is their best album to date. No bad songs here - only good ones and better ones.
