So this is an interesting record… they tone down things even more. Its like the complete opposite of The Bedlam in Goliath. So like a mildly annoying thing just for me is that some of these tracks should be combined, its like they separate almost every breakdown or transition into its own track. But that aside this is another good album, its TMV as their most chill and atmospheric. Favs on here are The Iron Rose, Voice in my knives, Poseedora de mi sombra, Un disparo al vacio, Morgana, ... read more
So I haven’t actually heard this one yet. When I heard The Mars Volta were reuniting to make a self-titled art pop album, I thought “well thats unexpected and weird” but then I remembered you should expect unexpected and weird from The Mars Volta. So how is it actually? Surprisingly good. I suppose my one question is why did they not do a rebrand similar to At the Drive-In to The Mars Volta? It feels like such an obvious thing to do, and I get why they self-titled the album ... read more

Aegis is alright… it gets repetitive but Dyslexicon is the first banger on the album as its in Bedlam/Octahedron-esque ... read more
Signify is the first PT record I was able to really appreciate since it is nexus of eras between the band’s more ambient first 3 records and really the beginning of the Porcupine Tree that is the most well known, that is being one of the most notable modern prog groups. I think this album is a tad bit overhated, there are some great moments on the record. It all comes down to the fact that You Not Me is honestly a dogshit butt rock track that gives a really bad early impression of the album. The rest of the album ranges from fine to pretty great, definitely a big step down from how consistent Awake was though. I think your palate for Dream Theater ballads will also factor into how you feel overall cuz there is quite a few here, thankfully I like them. The 2nd ... read more
