The narrative of this album was a bit non existent, some of the tunes kept throwing me into completely different moods which is great in a project but sometimes I felt like it wasn't consistent enough with a theme. The latter half of the album was a lot stronger than the beginning for sure and the basslines were strong throughout, all in all I enjoyed this project and didn't turn it off which 2021 has definitely had a few of already.
it's not bad, if this was their debut i'd say it was decent, but they gotta do something else with the sound by now...
definitely a consistent sound throughout which isn't easy to do, but nothing that could stand out as a strong single necessarily.
definitely potential, i mean, she won the Scottish AOTY award - which historically has been won by an insane roster of scottish artists before they became big.
The flows are sticky all the way through apart from when the verses are spat fast, which, usually is the other way around.
The mic quality is awful for some reason which is surprising since the album is mastered well beat wise.
All in all its refreshing that it spans a few genres through the short tracklist. The grime cuts are very ... read more
definitely keeping the same sound as Wildflower, sometimes stronger tracks and still maintaining the smoothness from track transitions to the next. maybe the only reasons for it not being flawless or great is the lack of some really memorable tracks and it solely outdoing itself from its sophomore album. the features do work well, compared to a band like Gorillaz nowadays who simply throw artists in the mix for the sake of it.
it's always going to be a shame they moved away from the raw ... read more
was clearly ghost written on Drakes part, so this as a Headie One track was hard.
Somebody robbed Mike Skinner.
I don't want to completely s**t on the man, but this is almost genius in its atrociousness. Mike's lost it, the song writing and structure is so lazy, the lyrics are literally mental, not in a good way. The features are pointless and even the TRACK LISTING! Why would you put two - almost, ballads at the end of the album and finish it off with a Jump Up Drum n Bass track to close the album, I don't understand.
The mixing and mastering is a robbery, the vocals sound ... read more
Pre-album release, AOTY material already
*Edit
This feels like a compilation, knowing the background of the band, its understandable. I don't like that there should be a blurb for some projects, and parameters, but this bad/collective have put together a album with a vast amount of contributors and ideas - coming out with something that is pretty seamless and flows just like a trio band or any other tight group should.
Coming off The Streets album last week having the worst closing track of ... read more
This will be a growing album.
The feel of this is very much like a book, should be sat down and listened to properly. There is a strong vibe of Madvillainy which is obvious due to the love to Doom from Earl.
The sound has grown over each of his albums and that is exactly how music should be and what critics strive for, even if it's not what fans always want.
But the sound is consistent from start to finish which is not easy when producing. Another point, produced a lot by Earl himself, ... read more
Strong instrumentals throughout, a solid narrative although would have suggested his own responses to the narrator.
Starts with a solid intro through to some really vibrant beats, then really addresses the mood of the album. a really pleasant listen.
Best Track - Disaster
Worst Track - Voices
A more accessible album of late but still the originality is fading into the general pop culture and they are losing sense of their brilliance.
What started as an alternative hip hop group is now becoming a basic pop boy band.
In other points though, the sound is still strong and is an all round quality album.
Beautiful sound all the way through this album, it keeps a vibe which is the sign of a well thought out and orchestrated album. Production is crisp and warm, perfect length.
Only thing stopping this from being a 100 is would like a couple of funkier tracks in this to mix it up a bit, but other than that - which isn't really a fault, best album of the year so far.
If this isn't a good album. Then what do the people want?
Still capturing the slow moody mood of current London. Giving a more punk influenced sound, very much Pixies influenced. Evolving, and the critics still don't get it?
Covering so much over a career and it feels this is the last piece of what you could see coming through, a faster moving band, a cleaner-tighter sound, finishing in a Demon Days way of 3 half connecting songs as a slow fade out. Great ending to a punchy album. Even giving ... read more
