So, this EP has it’s problems and I really want the artist to improve in the future but right now this ain’t it.

This is kind of a review for "Normal Love" also, because I believe that my criticism here, in a lot of ways, is worth there too.

The first time I went through this entire thing I didn’t give much thought to it. I just found that the first track was a pleasant enough track to add to my drone playlist even if it was kind of needlessly long, and the rest of ... read more

Well, this was unexpected...

This album feels like a blend of their debut 'Burn' and their breakout record 'Your Queen Is a Reptile', BOTH of which are two of my FAVORITE jazz albums of ALL TIME! So, there's no way I don't LOVE this right.........? RIIIGHT?

Not really... the chaos of 'Burn' and the radicalism of 'Your Queen Is a Reptile' could have accounted for an exhilarating and dauntingly beautiful experience *IF* the musicality was not sacrificed in the name of concept. 'Black To The ... read more

'Lest We Forget What We Came Here To Do' is the sophomore record from the Shabaka-lead Sons of Kemet. This is quite a different record from their debut. While 'Burn' had a bigger variation of instrumentals and was more versatile, LWFWWCHTD is way more stylistically focused and emotion-driven.

The album starts with the song 'In Memory of Samir Awad', an homage to a teenager in Israel who was shot dead while protesting against the segregation in the country, acts by the government that mimic the ... read more

After Revisiting D'Angelo's "Black Messiah" I went to another catalyst of black music in the 21's century, Shabaka Hutchings. The man has worked in many jazz projects but is mostly known for his work in Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming.

From his musical project "Shabaka and the Ancestors", "We Are Sent Here By History" is what I consider to be his magnum opus.

With mixtures of avant-garde and some of the most spiritual jazz you can find, the British-based ... read more

I enjoyed JIK. Actually, I really enjoyed JIK. People really like to shit on this album, saying that this is his "only OBJECTIVELY BAD" album.

First of all, that's humongous, Watch the Throne is right there lol, and second of all, even if this album has some
recognizable flaws, there are so many good elements that overwheigh the bad elements in most of these tracks.

For example: The Chick-Fil-A lines in "Closed on Sunday" are pretty bad buuuuuuuuuuuuut if you consider ... read more
