Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD"
94

It is stated for over 43,000 Palestinians killed
Over 16,000 of which are children
With 10,000 people missing
With people displaced, it's not implausible that over 200,000 people have been killed in actuality

The orchestrations on here are revised pieces from different piano pieces off his other works. They do sound well produced and put together; however, they feel a bit too perfect. The original pieces felt much more organic, as they included live audio of the backgrounds they were inspired by. On here, those recordings are exchanged for layered orchestration; I feel the luster, charm, and meaning of the originals are lost. It doesn't help that it feels a tad bit dated too. A fairly enjoyable listen for its length. Most of its failing comes from corny lyricism and instrumentals becoming slow and uninteresting. Occasionally the record would surprise you with a stellar guitar solo and change of pace. Overall a consistent listen, and I would recommend checking this out!

NF - The Search

At its best, The Search is tolerable to listen to in the background. It only becomes difficult when I start reading and paying attention to the music. The beats are simple (maybe a bit too simple) and the lyrics are extremely straightforward, which starts to wear on the listener with it being 20 tracks total and over an hour of runtime. While I respect his openness to speak on his depression and state of mind, nothing turns to impress me while it remains stagnant and formulaic. And it only ... read more
