Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
57

Boards of Canada got a new album out, but I haven't even checked them out at all before, and I didn't want to just jump into the new record cause I wanna get the best first impression of them.
I've known that they have very high ratings and that's it.
Well as you can see by my rating I was very underwhelmed. Most of the songs don't have much going on for themselves, and the minimalism doesn't seem to work for me on this. There isn't any interesting sounds or ... read more

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
86

In 2024 I was really addicted to this album because I spontaneously booked tickets to the let's start here tour in cologne w/ my friends. Didn't know much about boat back then, didn't expect what I heard tho. Came back to this album today and still love it. The venue where we saw him was really shit tho, still haven't seen Yachty to this day even tho I was at his concert lol. After the show we met Jean Dawson, the opener, at McDonald's tho and got to talk to him. Nicest ... read more

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
73

Vince Staples had one of my favourite Albums of 2024 with “Dark Times”. “Cry Baby” has a way more rock/Punk-ish sound that i wasnt really a fan of. but the annoying style of rapping killed it for me. its his most political album yet during a time we need stuff like this the most but i cant help to feel like the lyrics are a bit too on the nose and talking about the most basic issues in the most basic sense. idk if thats on purpose so that even lil kids understand the ... read more

Vashti Bunyan - Just Another Diamond Day

Listened to most of this on my flight from Morocco to italy and absolutely fell in love with it. Her singing really reminds me of old Vintage Childrens TV Shows i watched back when i was little. For example ‘Nils Holgerson’ or ‘Michel aus lönneberga’. her music gives the same comfort somehow.
discovered Vashti trough her feature in animal collectives Prospect Hummer

Forward Kwenda - Tadzungaira Yepasi – Forward Kwenda 1997 Nyamaropa Tuning

When I was sick I was listening to this, and it's true that it's almost like a lullaby. Apparently this is played "to end all suffering in the world". Someone on the Zimbabwe subreddit told me the lyrics are more positive, not only lamenting problems, but also encouraging people to live with peace, love, harmony, respect, etc.
The background rattle throughout the song is part of the instrument called "mbira". It's bottle caps or other small objects attached ... read more

Aldous Harding - Train on the Island

Many songs on here sound actually timeless. her style is in the direction that joni mitchell is in, and i really love how some of the elements on this record are so subtle and minimalistic. perfect record to get some housework done.

Terry Riley - A Rainbow in Curved Air
81

The work on this album sounds exactly like the experience you get when first visiting his own website. The album cover, which looks like he Envisioned himself as the teletubbies sunrise baby, surrounded by all these hypnotic tiles of Buddha's spinning around. I just wanted to look up his biography or some information about him and somehow the website told me everything I needed to know from the first second.
Also took me a few seconds to realise I have to click on man's beautiful ... read more

Bassvictim - ?

I really like where this is going, but I still think they're not at their peak yet (don't know how long they make it tho)
Babcia Jadzia has some beautiful beach boy-ish drums that I loved

Animal Collective - Time Skiffs
91

It's the perfect album to travel around and watch the scenery pass by your window.
It's interesting to think about where they might picked up inspiration for some of the many sounds of this album. I can't imagine coming up with those without traveling or listening to a lot of music of the world.
I myself am traveling right now, and picked up a lot of foreign rythms, melodies and sounds of countries, for example Senegal and morroco especially. It's really inspirational.
I ... read more

I'm in Senegal right now so I don't get to rate as often, but I spontaneously decided to give this a first listen tonight while walking along the Atlantic beach. And wow I didn't know it's gonna match so well with the scenery. "Baleen sample" hit me like a train, and somehow made me all emotional looking at the horizon. I'm with the most nice and happy people, and in a very uplifting country in general, and this song still managed to derail me. Reminded me a ... read more

4 angel is really good, interesting overall
everytime I started vibing I was told to shut my bitchass up tho

drug bug - Hell for a Basement
55

An oversaturated sound, I genuinely got nothing new out of this album. If you're a superfan of this genre, sure. But to me this is just the same stuff once again. First song just sounds like trying to satisfy the rym and aoty persons love for long pieces with a big impact moment. It just feels kinda forced. It's not bad, pretty uninspired and nothing I'd return to tho.

The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
98

Just noticed I never rated this.
2 years ago I went to one of their shows at Skaters Palace, Münster and it's still one of the best shows I ever went to if not the best.
I remember I was obsessed with this for an extremely long time and knowing every damn lyrics of this thing.
They transfer their energy to the crowd so well, the whole venue went mad.
Took a pic with fatlip
deffo one of the most fun records ever and high up among my favs of all time

Danielson - Tell Another Joke at the Ol' Choppin' Block
73

This just puts a smile on my face :)
I feel I need some time to get used to the vocals and everything overall, but sometimes you just know that giving an album a bit more time is gonna be so worth it.
So this isn't my final rating, just a first impression
But wow I really love this!

My New Band Believe - My New Band Believe
65

As for many new releases I feel like in theory I should like them, but something always feels off. When I listen to this album I permanently think I would totally love whatever this album is influenced by. I love the instrumentation throughout the album a lot because it reminds me of the one you'd find in a record stores world music section. But then this album feels like a heavily processed version of those sounds. Too well produced to the point where it sounds plastic. Which is why I ... read more

Mammal Hands - Circadia

Its good but to me it's a less interesting version of Nala sinephro

Erik Hall - Solo Three
58

I shouldn't be surprised that this didn't really move me, since I lean more into maximalism. Steve Reichs work left me the same when I first heard music for 18 musicians.
The songs keep adding elements but get introduced so uninteresting that I can't be excited about a new one. I prefer repetition when it's psychedelic. this LP feels like waiting at a red light

Orchestra Baobab - Specialist In All Styles
82

I'm going to Senegal in a few weeks so of course I have to check out their music beforehand.
I really love checking out music of other countries and cultures and plan to check out more in the future. Recently "Space Echo", an album from Cape Verde, became one of my favourites and so I was already in the mood for more.

This album didn't disappoint at all. I don't understand the language but it gave me good vibes overall and made my day much better. My favourite songs ... read more
