Lots of great and emotional moments on this, especially in the quieter parts imo, very nicely done
so glad bruno mars finally made songs about love I was waiting for him to do that.
Honestly the only things saving this project are his vocals and On My Soul.
i actually think this album has a lot going for it- very nice piano centered production. However, similar to the Joji album from earlier this month, its ideas go way too undeveloped. Vegetation is a perfect example of this: really nice sound but sounds like it's building to something that's never delivered.
I went into this fully ready for the lyrical content: a lot of the time this kinda thing works well, especially with pop.
But I think Peaches forgot the part where it's supposed to be fun. Like... there needs to be personality. But everything here is so lifeless. The production is unbelievably generic and the vocals are so uninthusiastic. So then that makes me more inclined to look for something in the lyrics but there is NOTHING there. Literally just an album about someone lazily talking ... read more
Really well done: Super pretty and great atmosphere with enough moving parts to keep it engaging
Trying to like metal-esque projects pt.1
I was drawn to this after listening to their recent collab with Hayden Pedigo and really loving it, even knowing this wouldn’t sound similar to that album. Still I thought this album had a really cool sound and aesthetic- and find the lead vocalist really interesting. My only gripe is it doesn’t have a ton of variety, but still a good experience overall.
While I think this album suffers from inconsistency, especially in the second half, it's hard to deny how many great songs there are and how charming, and delightfully weird, the entire thing is.
90 -> 100
This album is so devastating and has absolutely phenomenal atmosphere and lyrical content. An absolute trip in the best way possible.
I really like how string heavy this is, even if a bit too same-y from song to song (house is actually phenomenal though)
21 tracks and 45 minutes is never a good sign...
I actually think this album sounds pretty good (with a few exceptions sprinkled in here and there) but the album has so many "oh that's it" moments. Halve the tracklist and develop the remaining short little interlude-esque songs and you'd have a really good project overall.
I've always found Don Toliver's music to be really uninteresting. While this album is, for the most part, listenable, his vocals and lyrics are so often unremarkable or even annoying.
90 -> 100
This album is pure whimsey and creativity. So many songs on this album, like Hounds of Love, Waking the Witch, and Jig of Life, are so weird but executed so flawlessly due to Kate Bush's incredible performances and amazing theatrical energy. this. shit. rocks.
