I like this a lot, it's like Talking Heads but listenable and the overindulgent trademark King Crimson instruments are still here. Very accessible. I might actually recommend it to someone new to the band over ITCOTK.
I don't know what to make of Talking Heads, they sound nothing like ANY other artists I've heard. The vocalist is so weird on some songs that he borders on being terrible but I guess that's the appeal? It's almost post / prog rocky how they make the instruments that repeat over and over so prevalent in the sound, even though they use synths and very funky guitars.
It does a perfect job portraying what dementia is like. The actual tracks, you know, the music, itself is middling. You couldn't really expect anything else from a 6.5 hr long album. This would have to be the best album in history to have a 92 over six hours if not for the concept.
It's really hard to judge an EP with only two tracks. Glenn shows all its cards too early but Rhoda is more punishing than anything on Spiderland.
I like the vocals, I like the instrumentals. Adding more variety would have gone a long way. The female vocals on the opening of 'Rooster' are a great example, but moments like that are too far between for this record to be truly great to me.
I respect the ambition much more than I like some of the songs. Relistening to the album really shows how underwhelming some songs like Volcano are. The last 2-3 songs in particular are just nothing to me, they almost made this album an 8.
Calling this your favorite rap album is like calling 'Remain In Light' your favorite rock album, both are good but there are much better albums if you delve deeper into each respective genre.
GIra's vocals are good, the instruments are good. Helps that I'm a fanboy of the original. The Jarboe (Red) version is a 4 for me tho.
He has the song's title on the cover the same number of times as its rating. LOL.
About 10 minutes until you get a ""standard"" rock verse on 'Time'. This album is mysterious but not in an engaging way that makes me want to relisten to it five times.
For some reason I always confuse 'Warszawa' with 'Elegia' by New Order, anyway, this is the best album I've ever listened to.
