Incredible demo, if the production was higher this could easily be an incredible debut album.
Make It Easy and It's Over are amazing, rest of the record, that is alternate versions, just seem kinda boring. The Extended Remix is a product of it's time, not in a good way. I have those on my 90125 CD and I only have the original songs on rotation.
It's not something you'd listen to actively. I don't think it's meant to be that. This is something of a soundtrack. A mellow, ambient experience. And at that, it excels. Also got a runtime boner from this.
I had a fever dream not too long ago in which I was absolutely obsessed with obZen and couldn't stop talking about it and making references to it when talking. I don't know why this happened because up to that point I haven't even given it a solid full listen. I guess my subconscious was cooking because this shit fucking slaps
Genuine surprise. Didn't expect to love it so much. It's like Djent combined with classic/Pop Rock, but in a good way. It has the fun messy vibe that I love from stuff like Yes but it still also delivers on the riffage parts. Lovely
Absolutely + brutal + in its delivery and emotion. Makes me want to go to Sweden.
Really sick, I just don't like how rushed it feels at times. Mainly the "downtime" sections, with the downpitched vox. It would feel better if some of them repeated one more time, but I digress. Tone is sick, brutality is everywhere. Great track
Some of the best thall ever written, and I already love vildhjarta. The pacing is insane, this feels like a 6+ min song even if it's not even four. Such a journey all throughout. Lovely.
Same thoughts as Volume Alpha, but this album stands together more for me because of the tracks used in game to represent the Nether and End dimensions as well as Creative mode. I've always seen it as not the soundtrack to Minecraft, but the soundtrack to the player's adventure in the game itself. It's not the same thing. A great example is Quake honestly, where all of the level soundtracks are industrial-ambient, with droning sounds, winds, etc. representing the different ... read more
I sadly never played the game with the soundtrack enabled, as I found it playing too rarely and always when I actually wanted to listen to something else, so I don't really have any nostalgia for this.. but.. it's an extremely fitting soundtrack. The game follows an 80s-inspired pixelated art style, and you'd think a soundtrack to this game would probably also be chiptune/8-bit, but I think the fact that C418 contrasted it with ambient electronic soundscapes and piano pieces ... read more
It's just a work of art, crystallising into this emotional, gnawing but full of life experience. My favorites are False Meridian, Reverie and the title track Heavener
Again, classic for a reason. It's an introduction to concept albums to the masses... and the masses still just picked one track and called it a day. Nonetheless I won't act like a snob since I'm here talking about how much I love one of the most popular albums ever made, I just wanna say that my favorite is The Prophet's Song.
Definitely interesting. Soundscapes are pretty big here and impressive for the time it was released at. But overall I don't really... like the religious theme here, even if it's not outright forced. I've read that the concept of the album was a circus play displaying the Apocalypse, while the apocalypse was unfolding outside the circus hall, but this to me isn't telegraphed at all in the album, and it is an extremely cool premise, definitely too cool to live up to ... read more
Just no.... Well, I guess Emergence is a good song, rest... well.. Just no...
Works as an outro and as an intro, and I think I like the latter more. It makes the album kind of loop. Very very atmospheric.
I'm not the biggest fan of Live albums but I gave this one a go and it was a bit disappointing. I'd say older songs like Crystallised and Visions were performed better on the older L+1VE/L-1VE albums.
Crystallised is the embodiment of Haken's creative soul. I think it is to this day their best, most sprawling work, joining soul crushing riffs with heart warming acapella sections. Oh yeah, the two other songs are cool too, I guess.
