I love Adam, and I'm thrilled that he's releasing music (especially considering he is a music theory nerd and also just a great writer), but this was a bit disappointing for me. The vocals and lyrics on some songs sound straight out of a Disney movie, not in a good way. To be fair, I think Adam was intentionally playing into that cheesy aspect on this album, hence "Dad Rock," but it's just so overwhelming on Free To Be (Not So Mean), for example. That being said, there ... read more
It sounds awful. Isn't Ye supposed to be a 'legendary producer?' I would rather listen to a "kanye west type beat" with 12 views on youtube that was made by a fifteen-year-old on their pirated version of FL.
mainstream hip hop album tries not to be bloated challenge (difficulty: impossible)
I'll say it: the recordings haven't aged too well. But, honestly, that kind of adds to the enigma of this album. Every song kinda feels like something from a different universe, and considering the circumstances under which they were made (drugs), that may as well be what they are. After the first three tracks, I was convinced this was just gonna be another feel-good compilation of 60s rock songs. By the final track, though, I felt like I'd gone down an absurdly gross yet exhilarating rabbit ... read more

Incredible. Timeless. Unique. Any compliment you could throw at this album would be deserved. It's probably my favorite Bowie record. Although, Bowie has so many perfect albums I could've chosen a ton of other albums as my favorite (especially the Berlin Trilogy albums), but this one in particular is just too iconic. The imagery and overall vibe is just so groundbreaking and there's nothing else like it.
"Compositionally speaking, Fade to Black is probably their best song. But that's really all this album has going for it--good songwriting. James leaves a lot to be desired in the vocal department, and the production is understandably, given that the album came out 40 years ago, not the greatest. Metallica's sophomore LP does, however, offer some very well-written songs." -π€

Definitely slower than his usual stuff--a lot slower, actually. It takes a while to acclimate yourself to the slower songs (which are featured heavily on the back half of the album) when you're used to the energetic, almost unhinged Danny. I like this side too, though.
Fav: Jenn's Terrific Vacation - that instrumental breakdown is everything
Least fav: Hanami - i like the message, but that chorus is awful man
