This may be my favourite Twin Peaks soundtrack because the Roadhouse performances are just something else.
Just You is good, FUCK y'all. James has always been cool.
Gobble gobble gobble
No exaggeration, this is the greatest TV show of all time.
Some of the greatest drumming performances ever are on this record. Art Blakey is in my opinion one of the greatest drummers in jazz history if not the greatest.
FAVOURITE TRACK: Are You Real
LEAST FAVOURITE TRACK: Along Came Betty
If I had to recommend an album to get someone into cool jazz, I'd recommend this one instead of Kind of Blue. While Kind of Blue is probably the better cool jazz album, Time Out is the cooler one in my opinion. Everything great about cool jazz is fully on display on this album, it is the purest embodiment of the genre in my opinion. Also, I'm gonna start saying my favourite track on jazz albums and maybe other albums? Idk why I just feel like I wanna add that to my ... read more
This is the Illmatic of jazz. The most essential essential album there is in the genre. A perfect album with all amazing songs. This isn't the best jazz album, this isn't even the best Miles Davis album, but this is undoubtedly THE jazz album of note, the gold standard of the standard jazz formula, and the definitive sound of jazz. It's cooler than a cucumber.
FAVOURITE TRACK: Flamenco Sketches
LEAST FAVOURITE TRACK: All Blues (if I had to choose)
John Coltrane's purest expression of his spirituality in musical form. As a result of that, there are times during this album I feel my soul leave its body because this album is fucking incredible. Some of the greatest performances on any jazz record ever.
FAVOURITE TRACK: Part II — Resolution
LEAST FAVOURITE TRACK: none of them
The album that made me fall in love with jazz. I still think it's an unbelievable masterpiece in every way.
FAVOURITE TRACK: ALL OF THEM
LEAST FAVOURITE TRACK: NONE OF THEM
Rhymes so good they ended the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"God bless my neighbors for the papers I can cheat off
I'm too wired to dream and too tired to beat off"
Relatable.
Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman are obviously both amazing rappers and they trade amazing bars on Lice. I wouldn't say it's either of their A-games but that's kind of what's cool about it, they're just having fun.
This record is basically Illmatic's lesser-known cousin, so obviously I love this. It's not quite as tight as Illmatic, AZ is not quite as good a rapper as Nas, and it's not quite as memorable, but comparing it directly to Illmatic is an unrealistically high bar. AZ is an incredible rapper that should be talked about on his own merits instead of always being compared to Nas, because he has some incredible stuff
Those damn kids in Children's Story are so ungrateful. They ask their uncle to tell them a bedtime story, so he tells them one of the greatest stories in rap history, and they have the audacity to say he's "really weird". They wouldn't know great storytelling if it whacked them over the head. I hate those kids.
One of the best produced albums of the '80s. Surprised that the top reviews all agree that this is an overrated classic, because I strongly disagree with that. Not only is the production great, but the legendary KRS-One gives some great rapping performances, especially on South Bronx and Dope Beat, and is really fun to listen to. All the songs bang except for Super-Hoe.
