I'm embracing this bewildering loneliness

bôa - Twilight

And you don't seem to understand...

After seeing those TikToks of Serial Experiments Lain, and eventually watching the show, I was shook, I didn't know that Duvet was the opening of the anime. I love that song, so I decided to check out the album. I was met with these ethereal, liminal space of rock. I don't really enjoy rock or these type of music in general but I'm open to anything. And this was a great listen. I do kind of agree that it would get repetitive at times, but ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION
90

Run away with me!

One of the greatest album of its decade, for me, it still is to this day. It was a pivot for Carly from a "one-hit-wonder" narrative to a cult-pop powerhouse. It heavily revolves around 80s-inspired synth-pop revivalism, instead of just mimicking the decade, it felt like you were in it. The wall of sounds, collaborations, lyricism and theme is nothing but a masterpiece. She went from radio-safe pop to a critic darling, and gaining a massive cult following.

Kim Petras - Slut Pop
15

Oh boy.

While I appreciate some of the tracks on having some catchy moments, its production is overly repetitive. All songs are mostly just sex, hence the EP title. I cannot bear myself to like Dr. Luke's production, as well as his problematic figure. I'm glad Kim Petras is doing her own thing and is back with her hyperpop and experimental scenes.

Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
80

You Lose!

If you heard about the duo from "Imaginal Disk", then you should check out Mercurial World! It's an interesting blend of 80s/90s soundscape, along with futuristic and glitchpop elements, and it totally works. Mentioning the album's structure, it's a perfect loop. The opening track, "The End" as well as the ending, "The Beginning" is not only for show, it transitions when played on a loop. It highlights the duo's theory of having no ... read more

Open heart, old cliché, two kids in a new town, baby!

Woo, what an amazing album! With psychedelic elements and rock sounds infused with synth-pop, the cohesive "sci-fi narrative" shines at its best. It only gets better with the transitions. Almost every one of them have. They take the transitioning games seriously. I know I'm pretty late with this review for a 2024 album (I only started this account today, so 🤷🏼), but other than that, definitely something that ... read more

Nicki Minaj - Big Foot
2

I cannot fathom why Nicki Minaj thought it was a good idea to release… whatever this is. Genuinely, where do I even begin with? It's horrible, for sure.

Taylor Swift - evermore
82

Dare I say better than folklore.

I can definitely say that Taylor made this for the art. No one randomly drops a surprise album in December, where almost little to no artists does if it were meant for the charts. Following the sister-album "folklore", it still has elements of folk and chamber pop, with more sophisticated songwriting, and leans more into a little bit of experimental sounds. Justice for "closure."

Björk - Post
92

Everything stops when Hyper-Ballad plays, trust me

While Debut is her declaration of independence, Post is where she started pulling the pins of every genre grenades. Post acts as the middle ground of accessibility and the uncompromising sonic soundscapes she later explored. It remains consistent in her discography, as she goes through different phases of sounds and themes, and progressively gets weirder. But truly, this "bridge" album is important for her steps into the avant-garde ... read more

Björk - Vespertine
98

From the microbeats to icy sounds, this album is the definition of the word "masterpiece."

If you don't know Björk or haven't listened to Vespertine at all, why not? You have been missing out unfortunately! This is one of the most amazing Björk albums, hell, even one of the most amazing albums of all time. You wouldn't see an album with an interlude that has a score more than 90. It is that good.

ODD EYE CIRCLE - Max & Match
87

Herstory was made in 2017, and ODD EYE CIRCLE saved that year. One of the greatest and impactful K-pop records in my opinion, an opinion that we, and I mean WE will agree with. 🙇🏼

Clairo - Charm
73

This is an album where I can just play it and roll over my bed thinking about nothing.

I don't really have anything else to say, other than it's really intimate and expansive. The instrumentation and production takes Clairo's sophisticated songwriting and turn it into a beautiful jazz-pop record that certainly holds a great replay value to me.

Oklou - choke enough
79

Now who said this album is "too much like wallpaper"? Uhm…

Miss Oklou, if this is pop music for bugs, consider me a bug. The bouncy and atmospheric sounds of "Choke Enough" is "enough" to make my ear itchy, but in a euphoric way. I still clench my hand when I listen to it because of how good it is. The title track sits at 94 scrobbles on my last.fm today, by the way. Heheha ୧| ͡ᵔ ﹏ ͡ᵔ |୨

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
88

I wanna f*ck my computer!!

This album almost made me cry, literally. It reminded me of how much I was torturing our laptop back then. Growing up, I didn't really have my own phone, so I would resort into using the laptop we had which ran poorly with just a 4GB stick. You don't know how much I ran into the blue screen just by listening to music or scrolling on YouTube.

All those backstories aside, I really love this album just like how I love tech. Now, I didn't grow up with ... read more

Porter Robinson - Nurture
94

Geez, what an album.

As I told in my "SMILE! :D" review, Porter saved my life. And I'm sure other people's lives too. It wasn't just an album for the sake of releasing, Porter took his writer's block and struggles in his life and packed it into this masterpiece. After releasing an "Worlds" that changed the EDM scene and focusing on the "world-building" and narrative-driven concept, his journey to "Nurture" was anything but a straight ... read more

Björk - Volta
81

Volta is definitely something, but the good kind of "something". Whether or not if you focus the weirdness of it in the songs or the album cover, yes it is still one weird album, but that's what makes it great. Björk's "weirdness" progresses over time every release to the point that it's basically endurance. People just don't like loud music. We've been there since Pluto.

I still don't know what she is in that album cover.

Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter
100

I wasn't the same person anymore after I listened to this album, and I'm glad about it.

"Preacher's Daughter" is such a big and cinematic experience all in one album, the pace is slow, the tracks are indeed longer than the default, but without those elements, we wouldn't be able to experience it the way it was intended to be. I truly consider this as a "lightning in a bottle" album.

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D
85

One of my favorite albums! :D

It started when I saw a "2024 album rankings" on TikTok and saw the album cover of it and thought "wow, what a cute album cover." I checked it out, and it was full of electronic and pop-punk-ish sounds that I fell in love immediately in an explosion. I definitely have to say that I really missed out on Porter in his "Nurture" era, but I would love to experience his music for the first time again. Porter saved my life twice. And I ... read more

Björk - Debut
81

She debuted in 1993, and started her debut with a debut album called "Debut." Anyways...

This album really gets you hooked into Björk. "Venus As A Boy" serves you an enchanting and beautiful voice, and "There's More To Life Than This", is well... What I can say is, it's a great dancable house track, and it's live at the Milk Bar Toilets. Other than that, great debut.
