This is a really good EP. Lots of fun songs and mixed in with some more meaningful ones. The change in styles in every song is really nice with upbeat and fun tones evolving to melancholic ones as the EP goes on. Would've been nice if it was longer as there’s heaps of potential but Teenage Dads’ constant improvement makes me excited for Majordomo.
Club Echo really feels as though they’ve found a style with unique vocal effects and heavy guitar focus which is backed up with fun synths or keys.
Each song has a different vibe and is tailored to different strengths. Ideally however they wouldn't have bloated the album with extra versions of songs and left it as an EP or even added some extra songs.
As far as debut albums go this is a solid one, it’s good but it shows the potential for things to come. Teenage Dads show off their unique take on indie rock with a mix of heavy guitar, light synths, catchy bass lines and infectious vocals whilst having a nostalgic feel to each track.
Although there are weaknesses in overcrowding tracks where there's lots going on when I feel as though they work best with simple instrumentals on this project there are not a lot of negatives to ... read more
Words can’t describe how exciting seeing a Smino album announcement makes me.
This album however, did not deliver the same as any of his previous work. Especially not to the standard of blkswn. The switch of sound and delivery across the album is excessive at times and he essentially sounds like he's trying to find his sound during the album and by the time he finds it the album is done. If he had continued his sound from NSYNC and Hoe-nouns for the whole album or a few extra songs ... read more
CARE FOR ME is one of the greatest albums ever made.
The storytelling on this album most notably on PROM / KING and BUSY / SIRENS is some of the best I've ever heard and the lyricism all throughout the album is flawless.
The high quality production is a great mix of traditional trap, r&b, experimental and hip-hop. There is some clear Kendrick Lamar influence and even some old school Kanye West likely stemming from the Chicago link. This record is evidence that you don't need ... read more
Great melodic trap album.
This is proof 'mumble rap' (even though I hate that term) isn't all bad.
I understand the appeal to many people however for me, the stripped back approach doesn't resonate very well with me.
Wow what a high-impact synth pop album. Avant-garde with catchy and infectious vocal hooks with little hints of rock. Little to no weaknesses in this album other than some of the shorter songs feel as though they lack something.
As expected from a Magdalena Bay project the songs flow together so well.
This album is amazing but I honestly have no clue what happened on drunk and hot girls. Certainly not his best but not even close to Kanye's worst.
Exciting production, experimental and creative sampling as expected from a Peggy album. Great mix of upbeat and emotional songs. Although in my experiences, JPEGMAFIA has had generally surface level lyrics but this is not the case on this project. Some really emotional songs and potentially his best project to date.
As good as a conscious, rap album can get. Survival Tactics is one of the best rap songs ever.
Far more experimental than Smiling With No Teeth, Genesis Owusu explores many genres; from hip-hop to r&b even to drum and bass. The downside is much of this experimenting came in the singles which left a lot to be desired for the rest of the album. That being said the high quality production and consistent concept which recurs throughout the album makes this album very, very good and even more excited to see what he has next.
As one of his early works this project showcases his potential. There is a clear development of this sound in his later works and this project has some really solid stuff. My only error is the lack of energy across the project.
For a Fred Again.. album? Somewhat disappointing.
For an electronic album? Very good.
Without a doubt one of if not the greatest r&b album ever.
Frank's vocal + production combination is perfect.
Feature selection is on point adding ambient sound without overcrowding what are already amazing songs (like Beyonce).
Most importantly however, the best thing about this album is how it's structured. Separated into Day and Night where the splitting point is the beat change in Nights exactly half way through? Amazing.
Such a raw emotional album easily deserves to be on ... read more
Dare I say this album has some of the best melodies in r&b ever?
The album is littered with catchy hooks and perfect production and vocals. No negatives whatsoever.
The selection of features helps in curating such a meaningful project, namely Andre 3000 on Pink Matter (which is a 100/100 btw).
For an album made in the 1980s it sounds as though it could have been made today.
