love this so much. the sound is thick and dense and I never felt stuck in the same loop as I do with other industrial techno sometimes. wasn't necessarily forward-thinking, but a kind of welcome revival of vintage techno and club sounds, with brutal sound collages on top.
I had no idea that this album would take me on such a journey. When I first heard SPELLLING it was way back when her second album Mazy Fly was released and I thought her sound was so unique, but I had no idea where she would go from there. I thought The Turning Wheel was beautiful and showcased Cabral's strength as a songwriter but I still felt she wasn't reaching her potential. Absolute legends, one of my most anticipated albums of the year and it didn't disappoint! The alien synth work from Yuko Matsuzaki work so well with his freaky sci-fi flute passages, and the piano on this record from Onnen Bock is at times frantic and discordant and at other times incredibly gentle and enchanting. What persists throughout the album however, and what helps to melt every sound into a mystical patchwork, is the haunting ambient backdrop from composer Hans-Joachim Roedelius. ... read more
Really loving this from Net Gala, sounds a little bit like some of Arca's early stuff but has a fresh, more drum-heavy approach + LOVE the ballroom/vogue beat influence throughout
