Taylor Swift - Midnights
NR

Often you can get to a point in a relationship where you begin to love idea of love itself instead of the subject of said love, so it starts to be difficult and exhausting and you think you probably don't love the person anymore and are kinda positive you never loved them?

Well I think people are doing the same with an artist and her work, having a clear picture of what she is expected to do in their mind. But wait, that doesn't work, people are theirselves, not the projection you have of ... read more

Vince Staples - RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART

The delivery is so chill it feels like he just woke up every time he got to the studio.

when she said 21... i felt that

Rex Orange County - WHO CARES?
80

Very enjoyable, easily digestible and consistently catchy.
Sometimes you need that lightness, heck maybe having it all the time wouldn't hurt. But I guess, life.

This feels sincere, heartfelt and mature. Lyrics are very cute (his carelessness of what people think about corny love songs is great) and give a serene sense of hope.
Simple writing can go a long way when music adorns it and lifts it up. Also, no need to be complicated when life already is by default.

I think this is the gist of ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Chinese Satellite (Live From Sound City)

She does something to your guts, not sure what.
I'm pretty sure she has the power to spread nostalgia.

NLE Choppa - The Gender Reveal Song
NR

Truly a blessing to mankind, what a brilliant thinker.
Kinda cute tho ngl

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Poster Child

One verse shorter and this would have been very good. Still cool tho

Khalid - Last Call

The themes tackled are not the problem.
It's the music that's boring: the chord progressions are dull, the drum choices are as generic as they can be and the production in general is extremely sugar coated and flavorless.

BADBADNOTGOOD - Open Channels

You can bet something's Open: my auditory Channels, to this.

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There

Yeah, the words won't do it for this one.

Probably was too much to process for everyone involved.
It sure was for an ignorant listener like me.

Just a whole different interpretation of what Music is.

Saba - Few Good Things
70

A couple of uninspired tracks hold back what could have been an amazing record.

Still really good to hear Saba back on track.

Mitski - Laurel Hell
80

A catchy essay about the dynamics, the struggles, the costly ups and the heavy downs, of being in a relationship.
About the bombardment of thoughts that rains on us when we go through the life cycle of said relationship.
About the helpless attempts to rationalize and give an order to those thoughts.

Good singing, great production, simple and well executed concepts make for a dense little work.

Alex Cameron - Sara Jo

His mastery of sarcasm is very rare and the way he delivers his lyrics adds that spice of seriousness that makes everything even more ironic.
I mean, fun and all, but this song makes you think of the fragile minds we are growing to be as a society.
Mankind has always searched for something to believe in, for a guide, for groups and community to be in, to feel part of something bigger.
The volatility of it nowadays is what gives us that fragility and makes us more incline to mental health ... read more

Blu - The Color Blu(e)

Permanent classic vibe.
A self-portrait in blue, but he gives a spin to the word, going for that vibrant and fun hue of it.
Awesome execution, cool concept, great artist make for a fun little gem, a turquoise I should say.

Saba - Stop That

Nice Wants and Needs rendition! Done with taste and decent delivery

BADBADNOTGOOD - Talk Memory

A very solid take on fusion, with a Return To Forever vibe and with great performances overall.
Pretty cohesive, the flow of the album is smooth and the themes follow each other well.
Highlight was drumming and the airy production, almost dreamy and on point with the tracklist and the album title.
Nice.

I really dig this, a lot. I feel on the same wave length, I don't know what they're saying, but I really catch the vibes.

Ashnikko - Panic Attacks in Paradise / Maggots
50

Mmm I don't know, she's not a bad vocalist. The first song is pretty simple and not badly produced.
I guess if you go for such a type of song the content is in the lyrics, which I'm not a fan of. No critics on the matter, cause it's pretty personal, but it doesn't arrive genuine nor relatable.

The second one is kinda boring musically but at least it is more abrasive and the message is delivered more cleverly.

JPEGMAFIA - HAZARD DUTY PAY!
98

He rode a fucking spaceship to the motherfucking moon. SHIT
I felt that drop too hard, I'm dizzy.
One more verse this would have been perfect

If he doesn't put it on spotify I'll cry blood

On DoubleZ's review of Justin Bieber - Justice
"Exactly, well said. Demonizing him is not the point, as for example demonizing other mainstream artists like him (as the ones you mentioned) or more recently, kpop idols being attacked, when in fact they are victims, as you said, of the music becoming an industry, driven by capitalism. Their freedom as artists (and in some cases as human beings too) is not that true. Sorry I went so deep, but I feel like music shouldn't be ruined by those systemic things and you pointing that out was really good and I really align with your ideas."
On DoubleZ's review of Justin Bieber - Justice
"Great points, dense review. I would summarize it with Kendrick's metaphor of the "pimped butterfly", which fits incredibly well here, Justin Bieber's biography as a musician is mainly industry and economy fabrication and little authenticity, his fall was kind of inevitable, his "artistic life" always had that feeling of shortness. And as you pointed out, appropriating a message that doesn't really belong to you (as hard as you can believe in it) results in seeming fake, and this kind of behaviour I feel like is also kinda typical of the US."
