Saw Ben Howard yesterday, lovely concert but pretty disappointed he didn't play anything of Noonday Dream. Is it because of the lukewarm reception people had back then when he played it live or does it require a very specific setting of instruments?
This made me listen to Noonday Dream again on the way home, and man, Ben was on something else. One of the most misunderstood albums ever i feel.
My first 100, purely because of the last three songs. Music does not get better than this.
Not sure how any rating can represent my feelings about this. Still need many listening sessions to process this, already needed some time with the singles that turned out to be the more digestible tracks in the end, but i respect the hell out of this nonetheless. Props to Ritchie and Parker for real. Ritchie always was the most extrovert of the group and stood out as the hook guy, but to be forced to be solely responsible for the vocal part of this album is still something that can't be ... read more
So I was at one of these last European shows, and seeing how lockdown was only a week later, i felt truly blessed that my last ‘normal’ concert was of Archy.
That aside, yeah King Krule live is something else man. His live set on the moon for The OOZ already was an example of how these songs sound waaaay better with his band than the album version. Even though i’m a huge OOZ fan, i could understand why some would think it’s too moody, but to those i’d just ... read more
Really happy Ben Howard is on here with basically a solo track, but man what i would give for a track with vocals from both Ben and Justin.
"Mona Lisa, you're an overrated piece of shit", "the whole country has a crazy speech impediment"
C'mon this is fucking great stuff
If it was just the live version of 'Long Season' which is fucking out of this world, I'd give this a 100
This live version of this has been hypnotizing me for the last 2 days, just those looping piano notes have me locked in for the full ride. For sure an experience i've never heard in my life
I truly have tried multiple albums now from The National and i can't consider any of them good. I actually can't believe how many people seem to love them, can you actually listen to this album for example and remember even one song? Musically nothing sounds awful, but it all feels like a clump of nothingness, which is even worse. I can also say for sure now that my problem mainly lies with Matt Berninger. Even when some songs sound pretty, Matt's vocals come in and they make me ... read more
At first, I actually hated Noonday Dream. After absolutely loving his first 2 projects, I thought Noonday was extremely boring and it seemed to me that Ben didn't want to be listened to. But the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the atmospheric soundscapes he was creating and I totally get why he prefers performing this style over his easy-to-consume Every Kingdom songs. Once you're in, you are IN.
When I heard that Aaron Dessner was producing this and that for once Ben would ... read more
I just cannot be objective when it comes to Michael Cera, the man is my god ok
How to make a perfect mess.
There are some odd songs, like '21 Moon Water', but it's a perfect example of a song that only works in a full album listening experience, because once it transitions into one of the most heavenly sounding songs of all time '8 (circle)', oh my gooood
Actually disgusting that this yee haw shit won a grammy for best album, like ALL genres considered. This defines the racist nature of the Grammys institution to me
