At first, I actually hated Noonday Dream. After absolutely loving his first 2 projects, I thought Noonday was extremely boring and it seemed to me that Ben didn't want to be listened to. But the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the atmospheric soundscapes he was creating and I totally get why he prefers performing this style over his easy-to-consume Every Kingdom songs. Saw Ben Howard yesterday, lovely concert but pretty disappointed he didn't play anything of Noonday Dream. Is it because of the lukewarm reception people had back then when he played it live or does it require a very specific setting of instruments?
This made me listen to Noonday Dream again on the way home, and man, Ben was on something else. One of the most misunderstood albums ever i feel.
My first 100, purely because of the last three songs. Music does not get better than this.
Not sure how any rating can represent my feelings about this. Still need many listening sessions to process this, already needed some time with the singles that turned out to be the more digestible tracks in the end, but i respect the hell out of this nonetheless. Props to Ritchie and Parker for real. So I was at one of these last European shows, and seeing how lockdown was only a week later, i felt truly blessed that my last ‘normal’ concert was of Archy.
