Kanye's most intelligent and introspective album.
EDIT: Clearly he isn't like this anymore.
Donda is a bloated album, however it contains some of Kanye's most and indepth writing. Donda has many flaws, for example, a lot of the songs just aren't good, the pt. 2s are unnecessary and the album could be cut down by like 10 songs. However, the good on this album is GREAT.
The start of my LE SSERAFIM Discog Dive. Not a great start.
Catching Lightning would be cool if it wasn't a spoken word intro.
Crazy is a banger, this is known.
The next track, Pierrot was pretty basic, and the one after was just bad.
The final track was pretty good though.
HURRY UP HALF HOUR
The Weeknd's final album is a strong and consistent album highlighting The Weeknd's highest talents, but also is dragged down by an hour and a half of content. The Weeknd's Synth pop is unique and enjoyable, but it gets stale after hearing it for so long. That isn't to say you shouldn't listen to this album; quite the opposite, actually.
The beat is wack, the drums are tuff, and 21 slides on this. I FW this song heavy!!!
I'm going to be reviewing this as a complete project rather than just a deluxe due to the restructuring of the album, similar to as if I reviewed Donda (Deluxe).
Unfortunately, this version is a good bit worse. A lot of the worst parts of ILDMLFY are amplified. PROTECT THE CROSS and COKE OR DOPE would've been by far my least favorite parts of the original. JIHAD JOE already wasn't my favorite song so to put it on here in two different forms is something I don't fuck with. ... read more
DELUXE ONLY RATING
--------------------------------
Diamonds - The beat is good, but Thug and Gunna phone it in with a boring performance. 5/10
Hop Off a Jet - I see the vision. I get the vibe. The beat is silly and fun, just like the rest of the album. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it—quite the opposite, actually. It's really fun, and I love Travis' feature even if it's basic. 8/10
Die Today - It's a boring song, and the ending part is weird and last too ... read more
The to-the-pointness of this mixtape is a massive strength. It's just 8 straight solid tracks with some of Young Thug's most interesting flows and choruses. There is still much to be desired here; however, what is here is simple and enjoyable.
A few things I wish were more expanded on was Worth It being a track where nothing really happens, and that Tattoos develops over the course of the song; however, it's only really towards the end while the beginning is weak.
It think the "Playboi Weeknd" bit is a little played out, but when it comes to this album I wholeheartedly agree. The Sun sounds like a Weeknd song but with a sound cloud rapper over it. Not to say it's bad, most of the album is incredibly gorgeous. Gessffelstein is a great producer, and Kaycyy is pretty strong vocally, however the last song is pretty boring, and the first song is just solid. The Sun is the true highlight here.
Booker's lyrics mixed with Kenny's production are so strong and reach me to my core. I'm not a huge fan of his voice but it does certainly mesh well with the music along with it.
It's a ton of fun but it's just all over the place. You jump from upbeat dance pop to harsh and abrasive Horrorcore and then back to pop. Rocket power is like a generic pop rock track and it's the real stinker of the album. He definitely perfects one central idea on his next album, Por cesaáea.
Such an incredibly gorgeous album. Every song has its purpose and songs like Funny Papers, Excelsior, and Manakins broke me. His death adds on to the pure emotion this album brings. R.I.P.
quite possibly one of the best game soundtracks ever
Original Score: 96
I don't think an album has fallen off of me so hard in the span of 6 months
