Never in my life have I connected with an album so instantly and deeply. It's so personal. I feel like I can connect with Toledo's lyrics on everything he writes, whether or not I can completely relate to it. The delivery and the tone of his voice also makes the lyrics feel that much more personal-- living proof that vocals (or, admittedly, instrumentals) need not be perfect to make a perfect album. Although the vocals and instrumentals are miles better than FtF, there are still some ... read more
one of weezer's best. it's really not easy to criticize this album, since there are few flaws. weezer really took it back to their roots with this one, what with the crunchy guitars. but they've also incorporated some new sounds, with intricate basslines and even some synth/piano (not that they didn't have this before). but they tried something new with the "beachy" sound, and it worked, unlike when they tried to do the same on later albums like pacific daydream and the black album. ... read more
so. this album is amazing. childish gambino took a risk, and it paid off. i usually don't like this kind of music, either. but something about the combination of all of the instruments really sends me. the starting and ending tracks of the album really encompass it. some funk, some soulful pieces, and extremely well thought out lyrics and instrumentals. some of the tracks are just odd and seem out of place, but after a couple listens they stick, and you start to realize their purpose. some of ... read more
this album is fine. it's nothing exceptional. with classic tracks like mr. brightside and somebody told me, you can't really go wrong. this album has it's ups and downs, with very high highs and some pretty low lows. one of the best moments that comes to mind is in the song "all these things that i've done". the bridge just envokes a sense of happiness and togetherness. but it's unfortunate that one of the worst songs, "andy, you're a star", comes right after. it almost ... read more
this album feels like a road trip. there's some exciting parts, some boring parts, and it all kind of jumbles into one at the end. some of these songs feel like they drag on and on, but for the most part they all serve a purpose. it's not much different from hot fuss, what with the synth and experimental sounds. the lyrics are also a big improvement from hot fuss. they're more mature: what you'd expect from a maturing band (cough weezer). this is a great album to listen to when you just want ... read more
