Might be a hot take, but this style suits them better. With that, I'm not trying to put them in a box, but I do feel that complete choruses and (at least) minimum song structures blend so well with Johnson's singing and songwriting.
All of the songs have recognizable riffs or melodies, and they have good lyrics. Some of them are funnier, some of them sound confused, some are more contemplative. Anyways, I do feel that this is a very good album from the band and worth listening to.
Not bad by any means, but I just feel like they regressed a little from their incredible predecessor "Million Dollars to Kill Me". Most songs on here sound like pop attempts and don't have iconic riffs, lyrics or vocal performances. Some tracks are great, such as "NBTSA", "Gotta Let It Go" and "Secret Sisters", but overall the album didn't do much for me.
Honestly, the first 5 songs are amazing. Then, the rest is completely bland or forgettable (besides the great cover of "Blueberry Hill and "I Need You So"). Cool I guess, but this could've been much more if it wasn't a rushed soundtrack.
Perfect. Every note Nina hits is amazing, and the instrumentals are marvelous. Such a fancy LP.
WAIT, Mike Love made a good album?
I will not give this record such a high rating because I want to listen to the whole project when (if) it's released properly with more attention, and having a higher audio quality. Anyways, really cool style he went for here, with funkier songs, cool sax and guitar parts, and his voice isn't unbereable. On the contrary, it's very pleasant. Shame he went for the cheap nostalgia bait afterwards.
Good throwback to Brian's brilliant carrer and highlights, but the performances are not strong enough to put the album a tier higher. Cool for fans who would like to listen to some songs in a more intimate setting, like sitting in the carpet and listening Brian sing those iconic tracks.
I think this album is underrated. Yeah, I know that by now many people are rolling their eyes thinking I'm just overusing this word, but hold on, let me cook.
What happens with this album is that the excitement of getting a solo project from the guy who made "Pet Sounds" (almost) all by himself, envisioned the "SMiLE" sessions and wrote/produced another awesome tracks and albums is immesurable, and that's totally understandable. I'd say, though, that first we ... read more
Destaques: "A Gente Precisa Ver o Luar", "Palco", "Cara Cara" e "Se Eu Quiser Falar Com Deus".
I became interested in this album because I always wanted to listen to something by James Taylor, then I stumbled upon this BEAUTIFUL cover and was immediately hooked. First, I did not enjoy "One Man Parade" very much, but after that "Nobody But You" just shocked me, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. So it goes...
The thing I want to say about this album is, if he took some songs (like 5 or 6) from it, it would've probably been a much more concise ... read more
Certainly it does not have the highs of "Slowhand", but this project is much more concise and has less "lows".
BROOOOO, never heard of them before, found them out because of Tigers Jaw <3. This rocksssssssss!
Every song Pat Benatar is locked in, you get a rocker performance. Besides that, it seems like they found the perfect guitar tone for her songs and voice. My only gripe with this album is that she sometimes just repeats the same sentences, making in predictable and less enjoyable.
Actually, really solid. Sabrina goes through a bunch of sonorities and manages to make a compelling album with good lyrics and great rhythms!
The best track is for sure "emails i can't send", she should make a whole album like that song.
