This is a Harry Nilsson album produced by John Lennon, so it's definitely interesting. This album also contains a damaged Harry voice, which is way raspier and less harmonic than it used to be.
The highest high here is for sure "Many Rivers To Cross", which is an awesome song: you should listen to this LP for this track alone. There are other good tunes such as "Don't Forget Me", "Mucho Mungo/Mt. Elga" and "Black Sails", but some weird and not ... read more
This album so far feels the lushest from the band, with power pop hits, polished production and lively performances. While they distance themselves from their previous style, you can still hear Beatles' influences on songs such as "Flying" and "Sometimes", besides from the George Harrison production (that's not a bad thing by the way, they are able to create their own sound).
Most of the tracks are really good and have great instrumentals + lyrics. The only song I ... read more
Underwhelming. Thought he would return to his old 50's rock style, or even have heavier songs, but it loses itself on boring and generic production + song choices (besides from "Raised on Rock", "Are You Sincere" and "For Ol' Times Sake").
You see? When Elvis opts for a good repertoire and follows a (even if loose) theme, he is able to make a good album. I would not call this "The Fool Album", but the "Heartbreak Album", because almost all of the tracks talk about it. Of course there are some weirdly placed and uninteresting songs, such as "That's What You Get For Lovin' Me" and "Padre".
Listening to this again and damn it... this is one solid project by Justin. The R&B vibes here are great and the heartbreak lyrics kinda go hard, I'm sorry. It just gives me such nostalgia.
It has some cool songs and performances, such as "Help Me Make It Through The Night", "We Can Make the Morning", "Sylvia" and "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago", but everything is put so randomly in the album that it becomes hard enjoying all of the LP.
Could have been a cool "concept", but it loses itself on pointless songs such as "Got My Mojo Working", "Cindy, Cindy" and "Life".
Why did he make the record so long? Even the good songs get outshadowed by the 1 hour and 26 minutes, which contain so much filler that makes the listening experience boring and annoying.
A somewhat enjoyable project for me would have the tracklist like:
1. Champagne Poetry
2. Papi's Home
3. In The Bible
4. You Only Live Twice
5. Love All
6. Fair Trade
7. No Friends In The Industry
8. 7am On Bridle Path
9. Pipe Down
10. Yebba's Heartbreak
11. The Remorse
So far the Elvis' live albums have been really good and it goes to show how great of a performer 'The King' was, and also how good of a project he could make if with a decent repertoire.
Reaaaaally loved: "Taste", "Espresso", "Bed Chem", "Juno".
Enjoyed: "Please Please Please", "Good Graces", "Don't Smile".
I feel that the other songs are not necessarily bad, but they don't fit the summer bops vibes this whole album was marketed as. Of course the album is not supposed to be a lyrical masterpiece, but idk, when she gets into the acoustic guitar stuff, I just hope it was written as well as ... read more
I don't think "Boyfriend" or "She" are additions I enjoy thaaat much, however "Souvenir" and "Feel Me" go sooooooooooo hard it's unbelievable.
"Back in Memphis" is a good album, with some great Elvis' performances, but the fact of it being "From Elvis In Memphis"'s throwaways kinda shows here. Of course some could even replace songs on the other album, but it drags down a bit.
I'm giving this score regarding only "From Memphis to Vegas". Really solid live album with some of Elvis' most iconic songs, and with what could be argued as his best instrumentation. It seems as though this one hasn't aged at all. Good guitar work as well.
"There's Always Me" and "Put The Blame on Me" go extremely hard, the other ones are average, though.
"I had to leave town for a little while". That's how the 'King' starts out his comeback album, coming from a two-year break in making albums and a much longer gap from touring. This album is great, it features my favorite style of Elvis' production I have stumbled upon until now (soul-based, with female backing vocals and a grandiose feeling). The song choices are, for the most part, really good. His singing also is passionate and highly highlighted by the great ... read more
Really really really bad. Side 1 was still listenable, but by side 2 all of the """"""build-up"""""" was shattered.
George made a great LP breaking the 2 not-so-good album run! And there are so many things to point out about this record, but I'll tackle only the main topics.
First thing is: George's voice is really different here: it's a lot deeper than usual, which suited really well the pop-rock songs he did. Also, the guitar playing provided by him and Clapton is really good and sparkles a new interest for those who were accompanying his solo career. Another thing is: George made a right ... read more
