So much potential in the first half that was lost sharply halfway into the 3rd disc. The three-track run at the start with KRYPTONITE, TORE UP, and BROTHER STONE really gave me a false sense of hope that Don would actually have a jam-packed album for once. Instead, it soon started falling into his same old pattern, and while disc 2 was nearly as good as the first, the rest was mostly filler. I feel catfished. At least we got Uzi on the deluxe.
Unironically my favorite Kendrick album. Yes, over TPAB and GKMC. I can hardly explain it, I just prefer to listen to this over those other two. It’s very overhated and honestly another masterpiece by the Compton rapper. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you this doesn’t compare to his previous albums, because it’s messaging and lyrical content indeed rivals his previous work and often beats it in sheer impact. Hard to think of many criticisms here. Very enjoyable and packed with bangers. This will probably be looked back on as prime Tyler in about half a decade.
Seems like he’s falling on instead of off. An honorable last album for one of the most consistent hip hop artists of the 2000s.
