Radiohead - Kid A
95

This is a longer review, If needed there's a TLDR at the bottom.

Kid A by Radiohead is an album that was released at the beginning of the new century in October of 2000. Kid A is very often described as a “left turn” in Radiohead’s discography, especially after their previous rock efforts on albums like Pablo Honey and the Bends. Kid A was mostly comprised of electronic and jazz elements as Thom Yorke was going through writer’s block and didn’t want to write ... read more

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms…

A Silver Mt. Zion, the lovechild of Godspeed You! Black Emperor came out with "He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms" in 2000 to great acclaim. This debut is hauntingly beautiful and eerie at the same time. The 47-minute runtime makes this album a shorter album in comparison to Godspeed's discography. This doesn't make it any less emotional and poignant, however. The album was created to remember and cherish one of the members' ... read more

Radiohead - OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017

Radiohead's most popular album Ok Computer (1997) was a marvel at the time, bringing sounds with it that had not often been heard until this point, it was pretty great to say the least, but regardless of this, I just feel that the album is overrated with Radiohead having many other albums that were better and more innovative. This is not to say that I dislike it, because realistically I enjoy it. Then in 2017 the band re-released the album under the name OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017, and ... read more

Sigur Rós - Valtari

Valtari (steamroller) (2012) by Sigur Rós is my personal favourite album of theirs, the album is very similar to the bracket album in the fact that the music puts a story in our heads as we listen to the album. Valtari is a massive change from the previous album: Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, which was a lot more upbeat and silly compared to some of their other works, and this album goes back to Sigur Rós' ethereal albums like the bracket album and ... read more

Sigur Rós - ( )

Sigur Rós' 2002 album () is a masterpiece of an album and Sigur Rós are pioneers at what they do, bringing a whole new level of emotion to post rock. Coming out after the great Ágætis byrjun, the band decided to go down a more experimental and ethereal route than the heavy post rock they were known for previously in Von and Ágætis byrjun. While this album does still have some of that classic heavy post rock that they were so well known for mastering, ... read more

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
90

In response to George W. Bush's election and the war on terror, Hail to the Thief (inspired by the American presidential anthem, "Hail to the Chief" is Radiohead's underrated masterpiece. Released after Kid A and Amnesiac, Radiohead changed the sound in Hail to the Thief to a more rock-inspired sound. There are still hints of Kid A's signature weird, electronic sound in a handful of songs here, but it is mostly a new and refreshing sound for the band. One of the first ... read more

The Strokes - The New Abnormal

This album is a flawless compilation of feel good summer hits. Each song has its own 'sound' and as the album progresses I feel it gets more intimate and emotional, with "Ode To The Mets" acting as the grand and emotional finale to the album. I think this is their best work and I think it's a must listen for anyone looking for a colourful and vibrant rock album with heaps of catchy beats and potent lyricism.

Weezer - Pinkerton

I used to hate this album with a passion, but some songs grew on me, I still think some of the songs and lyrics are cringy and generally boring but it was more enjoyable than the first few listens I had and I actually somewhat enjoyed listening to this. Getchoo, Why Bother? and Butterfly are standouts for me. Not bad.

Radiohead - The Bends

Radiohead's sophmore album is another one of their best. With some of their most popular, emotional and influential songs on it. The songs all blend really well together through the 48 minute runtime. This is a great album with absolutely no skips. However, some songs are significantly less memorable than some others personally, but apart from that, It is an incredibly emotional album which takes you through nearly every conceivable emotion whilst listening.

Radiohead - Pablo Honey

I actually think that this album isn't as bad as people think it is. I think it's pretty solid, better than many band's debut album. I just don't understand why Pablo Honey gets so much hate. It's pretty enjoyable with lots of energy, it's not my favourite Radiohead album but it's good to play whenever you want some high energy, feel good music. Also very good for doing house work.

Radiohead - Amnesiac

Another alright record by Radiohead, this album is by no means my favourite, in fact I think that this is actually one of Radiohead's weakest albums for me personally. There are some great songs on this album, but then again, there's also multiple skippable songs for me. It's enjoyable, the lyrics are great and I appreciate the effort put into all of these songs, but not one of my favourites I'm afraid.

Radiohead - In Rainbows

This album is flawless in my opinion. It is Radiohead's best work, and for me personally their most emotional. This album helped me so much growing up, I don't think that I would've ever gotten into music this much without In Rainbows, and it is in my opinion a masterclass in songwriting and instrumentation. Thom's vocals has never been better and the emotion is so varied and ranged on this album that I believe it is also their most versatile album as well, meaning it is a ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps

Phoebe is again just so brilliant. While this album may not be as good as Punisher, it's still an amazing album on its own, all of the songs transition well and flow together seamlessly. I think that there's some more forgettable tracks here, but that doesn't take away from the overall experience of the album. This album obviously came from some terrible experiences and it is represented beautifully. It's a great addition to her discography and I believe everyone should listen to it at least ... read more

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

This album is pretty enjoyable, but at points also pretty forgettable personally. I may need to listen a few more times but it is a solid album that I can see myself coming back to in the near future.

It's just pure, ethereal, beautiful bliss. It's my favourite ambient album ever. The breathtaking piano melodies, the emotional and angelic string segments and the calmness and stillness of the album all creates such an astounding experience that lingers long after listening. This album never fails to make me feel calm and relaxed after a stressful day.

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

I heard this album for the first time about a year ago, and if I'm being honest, it didn't do much for me, but after a few listens and the exploration of Phoebe's other work, it has slowly grown to be one of my favourite albums of all time.

Phoebe's soft, hushed singing mixed with the haunting, ethereal instrumentation all grew on me as I listened more and more. While some songs are more memorable to me personally, all of the songs fit together well and transition from one song to another ... read more

"@Crow_no9 Yeah, I think that is definitely a complaint I had, I went into this blind and it was kind of a shock to be honest, but I have since then learned. And thankfully, my opinion has changed. I think I quite enjoyed the blue album, thanks for the recommendation anyway, I appreciate it."

"@OzzysThumb1970 Tbh, yeah. But I first heard of Weezer because people related them to Radiohead, I can definitely see some similarities. I do like Weezer but this one just didn't sit with me as well."
