yeule - softscars
65

forgot to write a review oops

listened to this two days ago without really looking at the genre as my first yeule album, and it was pretty decent!! the washed glitchy soft rock sound is really enjoyable and definitely fits a certain mood that im sure a lot of people resonate with. that said though, softscars wasn't as consistent as i'd like especially towards the second half, and the lyrics can feel a little corny .. i felt like the instrumentals were a little flat in a few tracks ... read more

Kim Petras - Detour
100

kim petras' non-debut debut is everything i ever hoped it would be - no skips, just relentlessly catchy with a great combination of introspective lyrics and summery party vibes!! detour by kim petras is fucking out NOW .

favs: Detour, DTLA, Brutalist, Need For Speed, Basketball, Freak It
least favs: Bitch Ball Out

Ayesha Erotica - precum
95

two of my besties love this album and omg it didnt disappoint, precum is like a cascade of abrasive and horny hyperpop that literally floods your ears while listening. every song is so enveloping. yeah, its relentlessly weird and horned up, but it's crystal clear ayesha took an incredible amount of time perfecting the production and making sure these songs bang. not to mention, the hooks in this project are so fucking catchy, its so pleasantly loud, its really just bad bitch music .. would ... read more

tsubi club - trinket
81

trinket is a hyper-whimsical and very pleasantly noisy album, reminiscent of a more energetic porter robinson with dominic fike's cadence. although not perfectly consistent, trinket is definitely a spring/summer album for hot days and good vibes - it's all smiles until the second half, which retains the glitchiness and clever sampling but substitutes the joy for a more relaxed/nostalgic type of vibe. trinket definitely sounds best when it's all-in on the catchy melodies, but the ... read more

2charm - star scum city

UPDATE: 83 --> 95
this album has been on repeat lately, this sleazy trance-y lofi angle of electropop is so addicting its been exactly what im into lately, i dont find this as boring/slow as i used to!! amazing amazing album, wish people enjoyed it as much as i do.

although 2charm doesnt reinvent the wheel or anything, pitchfork (surprisingly) summarizes my thoughts really well! it's a very nighttime trance-inspired little hyperpop project, i love the festival edm influence mixed in as ... read more

Charli xcx - Rock Music
75

its far from perfect but shit i mean, i really like it honestly ... like her voice works really well over the production and the drums are great, its a tongue-in-cheek little track her and the team clearly enjoyed making, i think people need to let it cook!!

Yves - NAIL
89

gorgeous oklou-esque dance music taking inspo from a plethora of genres from r&b to k-pop to house!! this shit is fantastic and incredibly consistent, every song is completely different but they all perfectly come together for this soft and punchy little ep, strongly recommend to expand ones music taste.

favs: NAIL, Break it
least favs: none really, too consistent

North West - N0rth4evr
65

EDIT: she produced this herself?? i didnt realize, edited the review slightly, rating still the same

i mean shit, its not bad at all i cant lie ... the production is shockingly good (ignoring her producer tag lmfao) and her vocals work really well with the metal-y rage shes going for. im sure people find the sampling grating or corny but its really nostalgic for me. im going on 17 and these gacha-life songs, vocaloid snippets and tiktok covers being used are really familiar and north pulls it ... read more

87

House Of Balloons is many different things for me, but its definitely really intriguing! abel's voice really soars over the really dark and cloudy production - it kinda pierces at times but it feels very purposeful and 2010s in a way that only uplifts the sound. whats impossible to not acknowledge though is how druggy, dark, and borderline predatory this album feels .. lyrically, its insanely freaky and at times disturbing, but it's completely intentional, and again it really adds to ... read more

nate sib - for you
64

i mean, its just "for us" but less consistent, still a couple songs that are pretty good but generally not memorable .. really craving some better songs by him, his voice is fantastic

favs: wish, memory, down
least favs: 1, banger of the year

slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
95

although bloodluxe/half blood isn't perfect, it absolutely comes close and provides that "wtf i didnt know music could sound like this" vibe. i genuinely would slaughter to hear what this sounds like in a car with the windows down. the production is obviously perfect; it just fills your headphones so good, shit is actually fascinating. although i wish the last 1/4th wasn't always dedicated to transitioning into the next track, and rather ending a little more satisfactorily, ... read more

nate sib - for us
73

listened to this album on the bus from school after i realized how itty bitty this ep is, and i mean, its really just a better 2hollis. i think nate really needs to find his own style more, because his voice is fantastic in an electropop context! my main issue is the frequent build up without that satisfying release - which i dont always need, and i think my adoration of choke enough by goddess oklou is a great example - but with "for us" i definitely crave more that whats given on ... read more

Kim Petras - Need For Speed (loki Remix)
25

this is like not real right, theres no way this is supposed to actually sound good
only redeeming quality is kim petras' voice in my ears and the husk of what was once frost children production or vocal treatment

Oklou - Galore
78

after listening to choke enough and absolutely adoring it and seeing it live, i had to listen to galore!! it definitely didnt disappoint, but i understand why ive heard more people talking about choke enough. this definitely the beginning of her sound, but still surprisingly defined! it was a very soothing and relaxing little ambient pop album - id highly recommend for anyone who wants to listen to a sleepy little project - good for laying in bed or laying in the woods.

favs: fall, god's ... read more

Frank Ocean - Blonde
88

not really much to say .. im surprised it took me this long to listen to this but, thoroughly enjoyed it!! very minimalistic, too much at times, but still very peaceful. definitely one of those 9/10 type of albums, ill definitely be coming back to this sometime to really gather my thoughts<3

favs: Nikes, Pink + White, Solo, Nights, White Ferrari, Seigfried, Godspeed
least favs: Pretty Sweet, Close to You (not counting interludes, duh)

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
85

been meaning to listen to this for a long time, and its DEFINITELY clear now how many artists she influenced. although not perfect, Back To Black is very consistent, the production fits perfectly with her vocals. her accent is sooo satisfying to listen to, nobody chews on their words quite like Amy Winehouse. i also didnt expect as much jazz influence as there was, which was a pleasant surprise!! this really feels like what rnb was meant to be, with her tongue in cheek 2000s modern twist - its ... read more

Los Thuthanaka - Los Thuthanaka
90

Los Thuthanaka is a dizzying, hypnotic wall of hispanic sound that creates a brand new line while simultaneously perfectly treading it; the line between abrasiveness and comforting nostalgia. i also really enjoy how repetitive and relentless the noise feels, it makes every new melody seem feel really impactful. underneath everything theres always this constant flow/melody that grounds everything, so that everything behind and in front of it can be completely free. this is so so cool, this ... read more

Sidney Gish - No Dogs Allowed
59

sidney gish to me, unfortunately, is pretty much a slightly better penelope scott - the lyrics are a little abrasively silly at times (Persephone is a great example) - but i like the homemade feeling. i just couldn't help but be a little bored, wanting more. theres many more short & sweet songs/albums that dont feel as lackluster, so i dont feel a craving to return back to this album anytime soon. that said though, i really promise i didn't hate listening!! this albums cute; it ... read more

Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself
100

i listened to this album half-seriously while going for a walk, and oh my god i wasnt expecting an album this consistent and futuristic. Speak for Yourself displays imogens incredible voice MAGICALLY -- not just with how she sings, but with her production and backing vocals. her deep involvement with this album really makes it feel all the more unique and special, its difficult to describe. looking at scenic views while listening to these fascinating electronic beats was such an indescribable ... read more

femtanyl - MAN BITES DOG
86

femtanyl perfectly walks the line between noise and music, making for an exhausting but really "oh my god" type of album, i enjoyed it!! im seeing them live shortly, so i might update my thoughts after that -- the albums definitely meant to be a live type of thing, im guessing -- but even through my headphones, MAN BITES DOG is pleasantly piercing. id strongly recommend people try this album out, it's surprisingly consistent and really delivers some noisy hardcore shit!!
