This mf just invented cloud jazz

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers [Moanin']
90

A Jazz Standard from a musician of legendary regard, Art Blakely is a true innovator.

Moanin's collection of jazz pieces showcase how impressive and skillful Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers are. This record contains a wide range of composition through its varied instrumental performances, it will mystify you as it is both daring yet still remains accessible. For that reason as well as this being so early on in jazz music, this is a great starting point for anyone interested in the ... read more

鈴木宏司 [Hiroshi Suzuki] - Cat

This is a record that I will certainly be revisiting, such wonderful mood pieces, beautifully executed.

Alex Ebert - I vs I

I appreciate that he went for something new but this is a miss

William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops
95

Within the decay of these recordings William Basinski found the sound of life beginning and ending. The Disintegration Loops is a recording that more or less should not exist. The tapes were originally recorded in the1980s but when transferred in the 2000s began to disintegrate. Instead of seeing these tapes as a failure Basinski, decided to let them play out, continually looping and becoming more and more distorted. This continuous distortion feels reflective of the life cycle of people, ... read more

福居良 [Ryo Fukui] - Scenery

This is music to fall in love, get married and share a life to. This record has a control over me, I cant help but feel so much joy when its on.

長谷川白紙 [Hakushi Hasegawa] - Mahōgakkō
85

This record is quite chaotic and visceral. I was unaware of Hakushi's music before this record but I find their production style and the way they compose their tracks to be intoxicating. This album is immaculately layered, it blends a wide variety of musical styles and sounds together with just enough space between these different sounds that keep everything from becoming indecipherable. The most interesting part to this record for me is the beauty that lays beneath the surface, it is a ... read more

Ice Spice - Y2K!

This record is full of shit, like seriously there's a lot of poop references.

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

Crush me like a plushy, please porter please

Porter Robinson - Nurture
87

It’s the minimal moments that make this work for me, nothing says you will be okay like floating in an ocean of electric waves. This is a gorgeous record that I admit didn’t work for me the first time, but continues to grow on me with every listen.

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
100

Bob Dylan writes music that is essential to the human experience, music that transcends time and people and on Highway 61 revisited he created a masterpiece in songwriting. It’s Dylan at his most confident, writing songs that demonstrate his depth and beauty as a songwriter.
This record will forever remain a favorite for me.

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
100

If Spirit of Eden was a profound transitional record for the group in which they were experimenting with an assortment of sounds and ideas, then Laughing stock is the product of the group embracing those ideas and owning their craft. This record has an immense amount of gravity, it is a musical labyrinth that will pull you in with its walls of sound, and captivate you through every track.

Talk Talk - It's My Life
73

An ordinary non offensive synth pop album, it is not bad in any way but in comparison to the later work this record has very little depth. Still a fun time though.

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
93

On Spirit of Eden Talk Talk transcends to another Spiritual realm, experimenting with an assortment of sounds and ideas, creating a record that is sonically rich and profoundly bold.

Lava La Rue - STARFACE
73

Lava la rue feels like the type of artist that is on the verge of something special and with Scarface she makes a strong case that her moment may be coming soon.

Band of Horses - Everything All The Time
80

Everything All the Time is a well stylized record with a potent amount of emotional appeal. The performances are solid across this record with some very fun and enjoyable instrumental moments. It may not be the most original or genre redefining music, but the character and heart that this record possesses make it a worthwhile listen, and a standout for the group.

Frankie Knuckles - Beyond the Mix
85

After doing some research into house music and looking into the history of the scene, Frankie knuckles was one the first artists to pop up on my radar. His contributions are seen as legendary, often called The Godfather of house music.

Needless to say, this was a great motivation to dive into his work, and what better place to begin than his 1991 record “Beyond the Mix” and I have to say for the most part, this record delivers on the acclaim.

This record is incredibly stylistic ... read more

William Basinski - On Time Out of Time
87

William Basinskis "On Time Out of Time" feels both expansive and claustrophobic, sonically this record is a cosmic force (literally) and feels like it is never ending. The musical landscape that is created contains waves of dread and conceptually this record feels like a statement on the unavoidable ending that all life will endure.

I would say that you would need to be in the right headspace to fully enjoy this record, it is very unique but can also be quite punishing.

Christina Vantzou - No. 1
73

No.1 although beautiful is far less engaging than a bulk of her other work, capturing less emotion in comparison to some of the pieces she would write after this

Christina Vantzou - No. 2
80

No.2 is both haunting and therapeutic, this record is full of beautifully arranged instrumentation that creates a tone of deep nostalgia. Each piece is accompanied by a drone that gives the overall orchestration a sense of dread, it feels like a reminder that something dark can always be lurking beyond the horizon.
