Basement mix ingredients of genres that together should bring and album the I love. There is certainly a strong start with the Deftones-esque riff in opener ‘Time Waster’ that provides a moderately heavy backdrop to the vocal which reminds me a bit of Gavin Rossdale of Bush or Dan from Headswim. ‘WIRED’ and ‘Deadweight’ continue in similar vein with a catchy chorus and lolloping grunge-fest respectively. From then, whilst I still like their sound there ... read more
What a solid comeback from BSS! A band I loved 20 years ago and had almost forgotten about. ‘Remember the Humans’ is a gorgeous indie rock album with a gamut of instruments and voices blending together to spark something in me.
I feel like their sound will have inspired acts like Black Country, New Road and Geese which gives an idea of their sound. Despite a relatively chilled vibe throughout there is plenty of subtle pace changes and vocal nuances to keep it interesting and ... read more
If I’m honest this album doesn’t get me excited at all. Musically I found it a little one dimensional or one paced and I’ve tried a few listens too. Perhaps Lykke Li’s voice isn’t as great as Lana Del Rey’s but it is still good and works with these dreamy alt-pop tracks well.
I just feel like there could have been a little more in ... read more
There is not a lot to add to other reviews of ‘Look For Your Mind!’. It’s true that The Lemon Twigs sound a cross between the Beatles and the Beach Boys. The retro vibe is strong and if you took a record back in your time machine to 1967 and told them this is the music of the future, you’d probably not pick this one as the people back then would have believed it was of that era and not 60 years in the future! There are less successful bands to model your sound on ... read more
