It's not uncommon for an artist or band's debut album to essentially be a less polished version of the sounds that they'll more fully explore on their follow-up records - think Radiohead's Pablo Honey -> The Bends, or Eminem's Slim Shady LP -> Marshall Mathers LP.

The concept of having a strong desire to make an impact on the world while simultaneously not even being able to take control of your own life is a lot more interesting and relatable than "im SAD so i wear a MASK to hide how SAD i am 😭😭😭"
