his best album BY FAR. it's still got it's faults and his concepts never seem fully realized or super interesting, but there's potential in his artistry when he's exploring deeper emotions rather than whatever flex he wants to try and put in there every few songs or so.
another pretty solid record with a clear bridge from being lost to your vices to finding another purpose to keep going and done through a turn to some great soul and r&b cuts on that second half. still, some of the beats and lyrical ideas and song structures do fall into a bit of a lull here and there throughout which takes away from the overall enjoyment of the concept's execution. still a good album tho.
such a classic. the lyrical content that captures these distinct pictures and feelings of regret and delivers them through so many catchy hooks was a treat and without a doubt it finds its pocket of brit pop-rock and stays there which is just fine with me. one of the defining albums of the genre and of the 90's for sure!
listen it's fine but if we're being honest this shit is overrated af. the beatles were releasing rubber soul and revolver and sgt. peppers around this time let's be real there's nothing here that was actually that innovative. nice tunes, a few standouts, nothing more.
simultaneously so 2000's with the airy and spaced out vibes but overwhelming psychedelic at it's core! and with a concept and delivery that encapsulates childlike wonder in a story it's a great listen front to back with some of the most humanistic lyrics you've ever heard.
