Chevelle were always a step ahead of their alt metal/butt rock contemporaries. It's hard to find another band of their kind to get an album rated 3.59/5 on average on Rateyourmusic. At first glance, Chevelle might just be "another 2000s butt-rock band", but once you dig into the band's discography, you find some interesting qualities that make Pete and friends a little more than your typical 2000s radio-rock band.

Immolation #1:
Right out of the gate, Immolation puts out a pretty well produced and decently polished debut. Killer, hypnotic riffs not too unlike Morbid Angel's early material. Dry, grumbly, incomprehensible vocals, it's all there. There's really not much I can fault this album for, aside from the slightly weak blast beat-forward drumming. It's just a raw and brutal old school death metal debut. It's fucking great

Horrendous #5:
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Horrendous's 6th album, Ontological Mysterium, blows it out of the park YET AGAIN and proves that Horrendous has absolutely nothing to prove. More ambitious, tasty riffs as always, tasty leads as always, great vocals, fantastic songwriting, tight instrumentals, awesome atmosphere, unique overall sound. Yep, this is just another incredible album by this band. Check out this band.

Horrendous #4:

I'm really blown away by Horrendous. I can't really say ... read more

Horrendous #3:
WOW! I thought the LAST album was major step up in quality and ambition. THIS album takes it up an even greater notch. The melodic songwriting is just incredible. It's beautiful. Even without being a straight Melodeath album, this album still manages to have that beauty than albums like The Jester Race, for example, can have, but with an extra prog metal touch that is just EVERYTHING. It's rare that I'm immediately blown away ... read more
