If I had to pick one album that embodies a musical journey, it would be Green Balloon. The amount of cadence, swag, and whimsy in this project is not to be understated. Tank and her crew manage to effectively weave in and out of genres, showing just how distinct the different phases of our lives are.
It's great to have a more pop-oriented Gaga back! I think she managed to mesh her new and old styles well; however, the best three songs are unfortunately all singles. While every song does hold a good amount of lyrical value, many lack innovation in production and melody. Despite this, MAYHEM is still an essential listen for pop music fans.
TOP 5
1. Abracadabra
2. Disease
3. Die With a Smile
4. How Bad Do U Want Me
5. LoveDrug
No Shape is astounding. It is also methodical and impressive. Michael has incredible taste for both pop and avant-garde songwriting, and the attention to detail as well as the AMOUNT of detail is grand.
Lemonade is sweet and sour. It is also fresh and invigorating. Beyoncé manages to distill the complex pain and confusion caused by infidelity -- as well as the redemption that fortunately came after -- into a diverse set of tracks that draw you in to both break your heart and then fix it all up again.
A Seat at the Table is breathtaking. It is also poignant and inspiring. Solange has an incredible ability to distinguish her artistry amidst a world fraught with racism and anti-Black sentiment. What is indistinguishable, however, is what exactly stands out about this album (because it's EVERYTHING).
