I've been mulling over what I would put at the top of my list for best of 2024 for well over a month now. And for a while, I've had a 4-way tie between Knocked Loose, Parannoul, Lava La Rue, and Chat Pile. Each of these artists put out some of the most incredible albums this year. This sounds like A Great Chaos but with much less thought put into it.
I swear to God, every song on More Chaos plays out the same way. Synth brass intro, beat drop into clipping drums and 808s, "huh, huh, huh, huh", and Ken stumbling over the beat. I can appreciate that Ken's pushing his technical abilities, but that combined with the mess of these barely mixed tracks, it just sounds so unflattering.

Not gonna rate this bcs I just wanted to get sumn off my chest.
This is probably the one "big" band that's be circling around music enthusiast forums like these that I just don't get. Because objectively, this and all of their previous albums is insanely well crafted and worthy of praise. But for some reason, every time I put of their albums on, my brain goes "eh. Meh. Also holy shit Danny Brown feature made me bussss
Bluegrass is the type of country/folk that I make a few exceptions to because it actually feels like the rustic, humble sounds of America's South that pop country pretends to be. And this album has just enough alternating moods to give this a real spice to it. Plus the performances were lively and so fun to experience.
Also, I had no idea that "Progressive Bluegrass" was a genre. Maybe I should dive into this rabbit hole and see where it takes me..
