I have to admit, first listen and I didn’t really get it; but this album has gotten better and better for me with each listen. I love the confessional and intimate feel, centring topics such as family, grief, fame, etc. The album isn’t perfect as there are some songs I still haven’t clicked with at all but for the most part I’m thoroughly enjoying revisiting the album and individual tracks, and finding out new meanings in lyrics. This is a really solid album. Ellie Goulding described it as her “least personal” album and honestly, it works in her favour. This album is pure carefree dance pop at its finest and proves you don’t have to reinvent the wheel or be the most creative artist to make good music.
My only flaw is that the songs sound a bit too one-note so you can start to lose interest as the album nears to the end.
