Joey Bada$$ - The Light Pack
98

And so, just as Joey before me, I emerge from my long period of hibernation to bring you words you surely did not expect to be in contact with today. To be honest, I have no idea of how to put this, but this may be my favorite release of the year so far. Yes, it is only a single, yes, we are talking about a year that so far has been pretty exceptional and filled with amazing releases by an avalanche of great artists, but there is something about “The Light Pack” that just fits ... read more

Mumford & Sons - Wilder Mind
48

If marvel movies where albums this would be ant man 2 or something like that.

Edit: The review has arrived.

For months now I’ve been living with a shoebox filled with my old physical records lurking around on the dark corners of my bedroom, and a couple of days ago I decided to go through everything inside it and review every record I own. Deciding where to start wasn’t hard, I own a bunch of records that I consider my all time favorites, but I also own a lot of stuff that I ... read more

Caroline Rose - Superstar
88

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did.

That sentence could pretty much summarize my whole relationship with the songs in here presented, so if you are one of those people who do not dig long reviews you can keep scrolling without guilt because what comes next is pretty much just that over and over again. To be honest, I don’t even know how to properly transcribe what my feelings are, if you are familiar with some of my earlier reviews (yes, some of them are ... read more

Mahmundi - Mundo Novo
86

There are currently two types of brazilian authorial artists in the year 2020 , the ones who are trying to imitate the behavior of the generation that reinvented MPB back in the 70s and the ones who just make the type of music they want to make. It is common to see the ones who fit in the first category often getting mad when they receive bad critics about their work, and the ones who can be found on the second category are often praised for their originality and portrayed as some kind of true ... read more

Lady Gaga - Chromatica
NR

Lady Gaga is literally like Jesus, most people know that she is kind of important but don't think about her on a daily basis, and her fans are annoying as hell.

Jockstrap - The City
87

I have reviewed every single Jockstrap release so far, except for this one (and the remixes ep, but that is already on the way so be patient), so since their second ep is dropping tomorrow and I’m stuck at home doing absolutely nothing I thought “Hey, it’s time for that sweet “The City” single review”, so brace yourselves guys, here it comes.

How much praise can one band receive? Is god indeed Fair, Sexy and Nasty? Is Mac“drawn in circles” or ... read more

The 1975 - Notes On A Conditional Form
70

Hot take: this is better than A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.

I was never a big fan of The 1975. Yes, I indeed have a shirt of them, but it was a gift from my grandma, so shut up guys. I never understood what’s so great about this band, they sound like regular indie pop to me, and Matty Healy sure does not help when he just can’t stop spilling bad takes here and there (don’t want the MH stans killing my grandma so I’m just going to leave it at that), but ... read more

Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
100

I was disappointed by this album, I’ve never had a lot of contact with Fiona’s previous works besides a couple of songs that I really love and that one feature she has with Andrew bird, but I definitely expected this record to have a bigger impact in me than what it ultimately had. And the hype that started growing extremely fast after a couple of interviews that, if my mind does not fail me, popped up after the release of that one king Princess cover she appeared on, mixed with a ... read more

Taylor Skye - Kode Fine & Sons
87

I was actually really surprised when this album showed up at my daily recommendations on Spotify, I knew Taylor only from his work on Jockstrap, and since “Lost my key to the city” is such an amazing album I had no other option but listening to this while I took my morning coffee, and man I’m glad I did it. First of all, I think that it is kind of impossible to review this album without comparing it Jockstrap’s first EP, both projects are very similar and there is no ... read more

Christine and the Queens - La vita nuova
78

I think that Christine and the Queens is one of those projects where even their worst work is still pretty above average, that said, I believe that this EP has a couple of amazing tracks in People I’ve been sad and Nada, and the rest is pretty much what you already expected, not that the other songs are bad, but they are definitely not on the same level as these two on my opinion. The collaboration with Caroline Polachek was not my cup of tea though, both artists are incredibly talented ... read more

Princess Nokia - Everything Sucks
30

This album is actually pretty bad, there are a couple of good songs in here but they are not good enough to save this thing from the terrible other tracks. I have absolutely no idea of what Princess Nokia was trying to achieve with this thing, the first three tracks sound like as if she really wanted to be a part of the Birds of Prey soundtrack but got really pissed when the call from Warner never arrived, hopefully Everything is Beautiful is not as bad as this thing, but honestly, I’m ... read more

Vovô Bebê - Briga de Família
88

Little Electric Chicken Heart was one of my favorite albums from last year, undoubtedly one of the best releases from Brasil and I am safe to say that it was also an instant classic, it was such a great success that I was afraid that maybe it would take a long time for us to make something crazier than that, and well, I guess I was wrong. Ana Frango Elétrico actually has a heavy hand here, I believe she is present in half of the songs, this is not her album though, I have no idea of who ... read more

Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - Texas Sun
75

My computer kind of died so I had to go missing for a while, but hopefully I am back to posting on a regular basis, there is a bunch of stuff that I want to write about and I had no idea of how important this site became to me until I was locked out of it, so shout out to that.

I really enjoyed the first single from this EP and I am glad to say that the final product was far from disappointing, the overall vibe of this thing is “Driving on an empty road with my loved one by my ... read more

Jockstrap - Acid
98

Is it as good as Hayley? No.

Is it good? Yes.

Is it...better than Hayley? No.

Jockstrap is the most underrated band/group/duo right now, they deserve so much more, oh man I love their music.

Black Lips - Sing in a World That's Falling Apart
28

The fact that this album has a higher score than the country record Miley Cyrus released a few years ago is a clear sign that The Black Lips actually managed to dodge a bullet on this one. Man, this thing sucks, why did they even agree to release it? I mean, the opening track is not that bad, but the rest? This thing is borderline trash.

Dan Auerbach, Jake Bugg, Jack White, Kesha, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and even Justin fucking Timberlake managed to release better country infused records ... read more

Kesha - High Road
60

Listening to this album was like watching a friend take bad decisions over and over again.

"High Road" tries to take a deeper dive into mainstream pop without letting go of the country elements that made "Rainbow" such a pleasant listen, the problem here is that every time this album tries to go the mainstream pop way it falls flat on its face. The first half of this album, clearly the one that tries harder on the pop side, is actually pretty disappointing and generic, ... read more

Ethan Gruska - En Garde
74

If this album had been released ten or eight years ago it would have been very innovative, but hey, it is 2020, we have Sufjan Stevens and Justin Vernon likes weird electronic stuff now, and while I do not think Ethan Gruska brings anything we haven't heard before, he also manages to totally hide Phoebe Bridgers in a song and, hey, you just don't do that. This album is not bad though, the track featuring Moses Sumney is really good, definitely one of the best ones you will find here, the ... read more

Kiko Dinucci - Rastilho
60

So the idea here was to make a whole album dedicated to the acoustic guitar, ok, I get it, I just don't like how it was done, I think that if the execution had been different I would have enjoyed this album way better. I find it funny that the artist describes Jorge Ben as an influence for this album when I don't recall Jorge Ben being so minimalist like this, maybe he sees something on his work that I do not.

Kiko Dinucci is undeniably talented and ultimately if this album is good or not ... read more

Marcus King - El Dorado
83

Came because my uncle Dan is producing and stayed because I miss the Alabama Shakes.

I was definitely not expecting this album to be so good, the only reason why I listened to this was to see what kind of thing Dan Auerbach is doing when he is not releasing bad albums with the Black Keys, and I sure am glad I did it. This is no "Sound & Color" though, it has a couple of generic rock songs, and the lyrics department is kind of weak, but damn, this record sounds good, Marcus ... read more

070 Shake - Modus Vivendi
85

Is there anything I can say about her voice that has never been said before? Because I am seriously lacking adjectives in here, this album is just an amazing emotional trip built by a very young and promising artist with a state-of-the-art brain. I really like how similar this is to the stuff James Blake has built his whole career upon and how at the same time it is impossible for me to imagine him making something like this, sorry JB, I love your music and everything, but sometimes I have ... read more
