There are some bangers on here, and despite my dislike of her in general I can admit the production is peak for her— but it does get repetitive. 101 and Freak It are standouts for sure, and it starts off strong, but there’s always something about her records that don’t stick? Maybe I just don’t get it, or maybe she is a singles artist. Time will tell I guess!
Well I didn’t expect to like this that much but… It’s competing with WGIA for album of the year right now.
It’s not as incredible when you get older but this is still his best album to date. And it’s not opinions based.
I was about to give this a 60 but I couldn’t tell you one song besides Coming Up Roses and the first two. Harry Styles remains his best record.
I am one of the few to admit that Pitchfork gives accurate reviews 95% of the time, but them giving this one a 6.0 feels harsh. Self Destruct is such a strong opener that it being on a 6.0 album feels wrong. I mean, Troubled Paradise has a pretty solid track run up until the 9th song (Serial Killer, Letters you get some lashings too). The highs arent as high as her mixtape (or even some of Starfuckers highlights) but this was a nice direction for her!
