her situationship with matty healy really made her write some of her best work (folklore, evermore, hell, even midnights to some extent) and then caused her downfall. careful what you wish for, i guess. also feels like a soft pivot to the right. that’s where the money is and she’s definitely following it
an enjoyable debut that lacks a little of a unique identity. ‘that’s showbiz baby’ is basically what you get when you mix all the current pop trends (disco and k-pop in particular) and the result reminds me of someone else on most tracks (there are dua lipa’s, ava max’s, jessie ware’s, ariana grande’s songs in here). still, the tracks are enjoyable, especially on the first half of the record. unfortunately, i think the quality really drops off after lip ... read more
feels exactly like listening to your straight girlfriend’s yapping about the guys she’s dating — somewhat entertaining but mostly insufferable
this album tries to be bold but ends up being just loud. gaga’s vocal performance is stellar but musically mayhem runs out of ideas pretty quickly and as for lyrics, there weren’t any fresh ideas to begin with. gaga as an artist has always to some extent been about fame and in an ironic way this album reflects the role of the celebrity in the current landscape pretty well
