Sevendust - Animosity
80

Heavy riffs, Heavy angst, yeah it's Nu Metal time! Shit needs a revival honestly I think kids these days would really fuck with it.
Sevendust may not be the first band you think of when the genre comes up, but damn are they an underrated act. They do all the right things that I like out of this genre without being too much like some acts tend to fall into being. In their underated 2001 release they make a strong case of being at least mentioned when the conversation of Nu Metal. Second ... read more

Animals as Leaders - Animals as Leaders

In an ambitious debut self titled instrumental progressive metal release, Animals as Leaders make a bold statement. For personally, I really appreciated the musical complexity offered to my ears, I found a good amount of this experience worth checking out again.

Recs:
- Soraya
- On Impulse
- Behaving Badly
- Point to Point
- Modern Meat
- Song of Solomon

Beach Bunny - Animalism

Just a woman and her guitar. It's a pleasant listen though nothing in particular about it grabs me.

LIGHTBREATHER - The days
50

Thanks @nnofficial for sharing. Your new single with me.

Apparently I enjoyed your ambient release last fall though due to the sheer amount of music I consume, hardly remember even checking it out. So hopefully with this single, you can remind me why t am fond of your efforts.

Unfortunately, nothing provided here grabbed my attention. You have some interesting ideas but at least for me nothing clicks. Maybe I'll connect with whatever you provide next more hopefully.

The Pseudonym Experiment - despite everything
70

Thanks @nuggfathom for sharing your new album with me.

I jotted down some notes for each track that caught my attention.

Easier to See:
- Like the Weird core vibe.
- Sounds like a surrealist nightmare.
- Could fit in a soundtrack for a suspense mystery show.

Caterpillar:
-Energetic for a dark ambient album.
-Has a cool futuristic/ cyberpunk vibe to it.
-It does overstay it's welcome slightly/lack of substance.

Body Shaming:
-Ominous AF
- Seems like I'm summoning Cthulhu ... read more

Finally I get to Remi's latest release. Sorry it took so long, just had a bunch of music to listen that took priority.

This looks to be a rage trap release which I have practically zero experience in so I am not your guy to rely on for opinions or appraisals since I am very much an outsider to this community.

In my significant dosage of this sound with this hour long release, the main take away is that though it's a distinct sound there's not much variation and soon enough all ... read more

Pretty Idiot - Sandia

Thanks @ByDesign for sharing me your single!

To get it out of the way, I got to praise the composition of this song. From the intriguing start, to the overall flow to the finishing instrumental. Speaking of all of the instruments are played and mixed very well here to really get the charming folk atmosphere going. The female vocalist is good as well. Overall its a very good first impression of a single. You guys got something cool cooking here and I am excited to see where you take it next!

St. Lucia - Fata Morgana: Dawn

Oh boy I have been waiting for a new release from these guys ever since I fell in love with their previous release "Utopia". I hope they can keep up the rich retro inspired production and euphoric vocals as well as some catchy melodies that will uplift any mood in this new one.

Just relistened to the previously mentioned album and it still hits all the right spots for me. What a gem that album is, a very feel good experience. Hopefully if you enjoy this one you check that one out as ... read more

Thanks @piercevb for the FRESH recommendation of an LP that released literally yesterday!

It's got a high rating(mother fucking 95 as I am typing this), so I am expecting the HIGHEST quality hip hop that literally blows me away. Let's see if I think this is as amazing as the impressions have been so far...

What we have here is some smooth vibes and beats with some fine rapping over it generally. I do think the introduction overstays it's welcome a bit and that interlude is a ... read more

Pescado Rabioso - Artaud

Thanks @Parannemi for recommending me this classic album!

I am planning on going back to 1965 and work my way through to 1980 to catch up my long term project as well as full up any gaps to make it true to my word with proof that I actually did the whole thing. I plan on doing that once I finish the 90s some time this summer to start my hiatus from my progress through time. This will take the rest of the year at least and probably into 2026 but eh, I got time. All this to say I was going to ... read more

Adebisi Shank - Start A Band

Thanks @Solublepoem365 for recommending this single!

It's an interesting one. Cool energetic riffs and complimentary drumming. Is a fun listen for what it offers but I don't really see myself returning to this. It is cool enough to be worth a listen if you are curious enough though.

Visitas Póstumas - Futebol de Salão
55

Thanks @redlikeelmo for recommending me this!

This is a short and pleasant indie rock release that does the job well enough. Not the biggest fan of the vocals, but otherwise this was pretty inoffensive.

Snowfilter Cult - I Will Remove All My Teeth
60

Thanks @thegreatbigben for recommending me this single of yours!

The wind really is whistling tonight ain't it...

It's a nice drone piece that's ripe for stilling busy thoughts and replacing it with a tense serenity. Not bad, but not the most engaging thing in the world.

Mass - The Dusk is Falling
80

Thanks @mass for recommending me your album!

Man it may be atmospheric ambience but the utter rich texture found in here is just so good. It hits all of the right spots to make for an enrapturing listen fit for a moody night alone as you contemplate the stars of this dark night and your place amongst them. I love the changes in tone in the second half keeping the experience fresh and interesting.

Well done Mass you did very well with this! This deserves all the praise it's getting here ... read more

マクロスMACROSS 82-99 - A Million Miles Away

Thanks @kumohs for the recommendation!

OMG this album might just be my first exposure to future funk/vaporwave ever! I remember back in the heights of lockdowns of summer 2020, I clicked the thumbnail on YouTube for this album and was mind blown by how unique and interesting and somehow nostalgic it was! Man, this one holds a special spot in my heart for starting one of my musical obsessions this past half decade. So hopefully in this relisten after all these years I can still feel the magic ... read more

Quadroon - Concrete Paradise

Thanks @piercevb for the recommendation!

Unfortunately I didn't fuck with this as hard as everyone else apparently did. So to humble that ridiculously high rating with my humble honesty, this is a decent hip hop release with some good production and fine rapping. I didn't find much here that grabs my attention and parts of this don't fit my personal preferences much.

ice7 - test week 2

Thanks @kattenbroekcom for recommending me this!

Damn! This is some really well done prog house and plunders I easily got sucked into the atmosphere and vibes in this feel good experience. Would love to have it on streaming so I could add my favorites to my casual listening playlist.

Recs:
- GOD OF THE SUN
- this is joy, this is summer

Fishmans - LONG SEASON

If the part with the water drops and weird noises didn't kill the vibe then I would enjoy this as an overall experience a good amount more. It's still a great listen though.

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind

Holy Fuck.

If these guys never came back for their second stint, they would still be considered all time legends and this release only solidifies their legacy as Experimental Rock Icons with a vast influence on the genre.

This is the definition of music you must hear at least once before you die. The space it evokes, the suffocating atmosphere, the emotions it rips out of you the pacing, the composition. It's been a debate with the trilogy making it's mark in their discog, but I ... read more

"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
