I promised to review this on an account I abandoned @VioletRaine and I only remembered to do so now sooooooo
"ETHEREAL ECLIPSE" Is frankly a spectacular soundscape that kept me intrigued throughout, and despite being labeled as a mixtape, it has much more cohesion within the story it is trying to tell than you would gather. It's beautiful, but laced with a struggle between hopelessness and hopefulness. It gives the feeling of looking at old photos from your childhood and ... read more
Alkaline is one of my favorite songs ever, and the rest of the songs, especially Hypnosis, Telomeres, Atlantic, and Descending, provide a very enjoyable palette of tracks that, while similar, seem to explore small sections of the sound that Sleep Token want to explore with this album. Knowing that their next album was such a dissappointment makes me upset that they never got to refine this sound in an enjoyable way.
It borders on the line between good and great. It's conflicting, because at some points, I get flashes of some of my favorite sounds from other albums, keeping me intrigued, just to go back to the same sound that I expect from modern metalcore. Except, it doesn't do anything to advance this sound or make something emotionally heavy.
For what it's worth, it's a well produced, very good project. It kept me entertained and I would listen to certain songs again. Thats enough to ... read more
Ghost Mountain's return has finally scratched the itch that I hoped witch house could give me. I always felt echoes of what the genre could potentially be, but it was constantly squandered by lofty trap mixing. This, however, is just the amount of ethereal-ness that I was hoping to find. The rest of Haunted Mound should take notes.
Adore the lyrical structure and the way that the producer mixed Miku's vocals. It's very snappy and bouncy, working in tandem with an equally as snappy instrumental. The lyrical structure is strong and pronounced, which I like.
Came from that one twitter post, and left unimpressed. This album just sounds like it released 4 years too late. It missed the early 2010's hip-hop scene that was filled with this sound, and just sounds very poor after the fact. The beats are so random and empty, such as in "Bang Bang". It does happen to find a better sound on certain songs where the shitty lyrical structure is made standable through vocal layering and melodic choruses, but this isn't enough to save the ... read more
I see a lot of improvement from Cynthoni in this rendition, considering I was never a big fan of past works. AD&B has never been my way to consume drum-centric music, but the soundscape here feels well-refined enough to warrant praise.
I just adore how noisy this is. The constant switch-up of sounds keeps the songs feeling fresh. Really, every song encompasses an entire album's worth of sound exploration. It's unique, and creative, and leaves a lot to be explored and picked apart after your first listen.
Frankly, I think this era of Shoegaze from Jane Remover is coming to a rather alright departure in terms of quality. I feel like the sounds has been explored enough already, and what Jane is working toward now is much more sonically interesting. Still, this serves as a quality shoegaze album among a sea of mediocrity within the shoegaze scene.
Very calming sound, The indietronica/rock blend works very well, and is a good amount of noisy to where it never feels empty. It serves well as a calming background album when doing work.
This absolutely rocks from beginning to end. It's a blend of music genres I enjoy pushed to an extreme that I find very pleasing on the ears. Ada has one of my favorite screaming I've heard in a minute. I hope this continues to be something that Ada makes more of, as I found this so enjoyable to listen to.
I never gave smokedope2016 a chance on a full listen, but coming back to it a month later made me appreciate it a little more.
I wish every song were like cortisol_inside cortisol_explosion excessive_cortisol cortisol_everywhere.
That aside, I adore the quirky sound at play here. I listened to Ada Rook's grindcore projects under "Crisis Sigil" before this, so needless to say I was immediately surprised by the amount of groove in place of what I was expecting to be pure noise. There is so much happening in every song, yet it continues to be digestible. Simply put, it's really damn good.
Editing for all the "erm... what is this album cover !!" Folks.
they aren't just random animals having sex. There is an entire novella explaining the relationship between the two in the album cover, and how they help one another begin to heal from trauma. The cover art itself is a pretty important scene of acceptance through consent, used as a climax of the emotional journey the characters go through in the novella.
I implore you, if the album cover is such a stopgap, read ... read more
It didn't disappoint. I don't think it hits the same level of consistency as Igor, but it really is hard to get something better than this from a Tyler album. Almost every song plays with a completely different sound that takes you off guard, and yet, I feel like the overall product doesn't suffer from the variety. It's colorful, but somber with its introspective tone on aging and the expectations that come from being older.

Alex Terrible is one of the leading examples of why the mainstream "reactionary vocal" scene in deathcore will never amount to anything. This is awful.
What the fuck.
I've never been a big fan of black metal. At least, the black metal bands that I have always seen mentioned as a staple of the genre. But this album might have just made it click. It doesn't even do that much, which I think is to it's benefit. At a time like this, where metal bands constantly lean more toward progressive concepts and complex rhythms, it helps to have music that just beats you over the head with a hard-hitting meaning, and this album does this ... read more
