While on the whole this album isn’t perfect, and it’s a bit off kilter and not as well produced as Jar of flies or Dirt. This just makes a lot of sense. If you’ve ever been in the throes of severe depression and /or substance abuse, this album and the feelings it portrays are all too familiar. Those things I just mentioned aren’t pleasant, they are ugly. This album is ugly. But it’s ugly in a beautiful and captivating way. Reminds me a lot of what Acid Bath did. ... read more
Really cool addition to the catalog. A lot more chaotic of a post metal sound than I associate with neurosis, but I fuck with it. HELLA fun to hear these new ideas + Aaron Turner!!
This paints an incredibly vivid image in my head. It’s an album can really take you to a different place if you let it. Plus stones from the sky is one of the best post metal songs ever.
This is a great addition to the classic hardcore sound of converge. Still brutal, it has more of a polished hardcore punk sound than some of their earlier stuff. It actually reminds me a lot of no heroes, just with new ideas and different pacing.
Three nights is one of the coolest fucking punk songs ever, and the rest of the album is nearly as
Good.
Fucking crazy.
Haunting at times, harrowing at others, even strangely meditative and groovy at some points? It’s not surprising that John Balance had an interest in the occult. This thing feels ritualistic, like it knows something you don’t.
This is just a first listen review and I know I’m going to need to listen to it a few more times to get a final opinion, but this thing is fucking FANTASTIC. Exactly what you’d want a new deafheaven album to be, new sounds, killer riffs and George Clarke RIPPING HIS VOCALS 🔥🔥🔥
Masterpiece in folk songwriting. Blends virtuosic guitar playing and deep emotional melodies and lyrics perfectly.
I’m on a trip hop binge now. This is right there with mezzanine of course, I just ever so slightly enjoy mezzanine more. Roads is probably the most beautiful and intense vocal performance I’ve ever heard. Genius lyrics and timeless beats throughout. This is yet again another plea for portishead to PLEASE MAKE NEW MUSIC PLEASE 🙏🏻
YES FANTANO
This is really the greatest ‘traditional’ trip hop album ever. So fucking iconic. This makes spooky and intense electronic music beautiful and intriguing.
