I've heard people saying this is nowhere near as good as Girl with no face, but i think they take up this similar kind of space for me, almost two sides of the artist she is, this album feels less theatrical and more technical- maybe less tongue and cheek but no less catchy and pop-y. It feels like a perfect meet between the energy of GWNF and Cape God, and only iterates and makes the other aspect better.
Icl im enamoured by this song, maybe im biased because i saw it live, but it was worth the wait
Gorgeous and clever, i cant understate how much I love this more folky direction for them
I really dont know how i came across this, but vocally this album was so enjoyable. I listened to this in a park in the sun and it was great, so maybe im biased haha but so fab, quaint, but still celebratory and instrumental when it needs to be!! So lovely
Hayden has characterised Ethel better in this hour and a bit, than most authors could hope to in a whole book, this is single handedly one of the most influential albums to my, and i know a lot of other's, taste and my understanding of music generally, she isnt a flash in the pan, Hayden has this staying power that you can see even now, and a long term creative vision that doesnt seem to hold her back artistically. I could talk for hours about what this album has done for me.
So fab, vocals are abrasive in the best way! Can't really place who they remind me of, seems like a really cool band to watch
holy shit man, this whole ep's been stuck in my head since i was told to listen. Such an interesting introduction and it almost feels like such an obvious amalgam of the kind of culture and music windmill has developed and created a structure for, while still feeling fresh and really really interesting. so creative and interesting like woahhhh
This album feels like waking up on a summer morning just to look outside and see its raining, and still go out anyway.
Not sure she'll ever beat this masterpiece, but i have faith in miss polachek
People overhated on this album, i feel like the sole enjoyer atp, i was fighting for my life defending it. Still strong, and i much prefer it to Smoochies, I've always prefered her more experimental stuff, and this was the most ambitious debut i've heard in a while. whether it was sucsessful, im not sure but i like it a lot still, its kinda cringe and edgy but i think thats why i like her so much, she reminds me of my younger self.
